About us
Crohn's and Colitis UK is the UK’s leading charity in the battle against Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis. We work to make life better for the 500,000 people in the UK with Crohn’s Disease, Ulcerative Colitis and other forms of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). We provide a range of information and support services, raises awareness of Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis through our media work, celebrity ambassadors and champions, and by working in close partnership with healthcare professionals, MP’s and decision makers in order to drive up standards of healthcare across the UK. We are also committed to finding a cure for Inflammatory Bowel Disease and since 1984 have been funding a wide range of research projects. Our aim is not only to search for causes, cure and better treatments, but also to explore the social and psychological impact of these illnesses on patients and their families. Crohn’s and Colitis UK brings together people of all ages who have been diagnosed with IBD, their families and the health professionals involved in their care. We welcome support from anyone who would like to help us in our work, whether as a member, volunteer or by raising funds.

Thank you Tom Gordon MP for sharing your story in parliament and raising awareness of the importance of being able to see a GP to get an early diagnosis. We look forward to working with you and other MPs to tackle stigma and raise awareness of invisible conditions like Crohn’s and Colitis. #crohns #colitis #inflammatoryboweldisease #ibd

This week Professor Bengoa was in Belfast, eight years after his ground-breaking report on reforming the health system in Northern Ireland. His return reinforced the need for collective efforts to accelerate change and “fix” the health service. Read more: https://lnkd.in/g37V8aMN Image description: The text reads: "We’re pleased to hear plans to improve patient access to GPs, and to “fix the front door of the NHS”. People with Crohn’s and Colitis face a number of delays in receiving a diagnosis, including difficulty access a GP appointment, and uncertainty when presenting with symptoms. It’s crucial that GPs are aware of the signs and symptoms of Inflammatory Bowel Disease, and understand the rights referrals and tests to ask for. Investment in primary care must go hand-in-hand with improving awareness of IBD, and the rollout of a diagnostic pathway for lower-gastrointestinal symptoms." #Crohns #Colitis #InflammatoryBowelDisease #IBD

This Friday 11th October, Jewish people around the world will come together to celebrate Yom Kippur. Yom Kippur means ‘Day of Atonement’ and it is the most sacred day in the Jewish calendar. It's a day to reflect on the past year and ask God's forgiveness for any sins. As part of Yom Kippur, many Jewish people will look to observe the day by completing a 25 hour fast. This year to mark Yom Kippur, we spoke with Matty, a Young Jewish man who lives with Crohn's Disease. Take a read of his blog as he explains the significance of Yom Kippur, and what he does to be mindful of his Crohn's Disease, whilst also honouring tradition.
