Great CTPA webinar yesterday on product classification borderlines for cosmetics, looking at specific examples with medical and biocidal products! 👏 Thank you to our speakers Lynda Scammell, Ed Scully and Helen Etim, from the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA). They provided information on medicines and medical devices, alongside examples of #classification decisions on a wide range of products including hand sanitisers, topical disinfectants, toothpastes, skincare products, spot and acne products and shampoos, which could be classed as #cosmetics, #medicines or #medicaldevices depending on their function and intended purpose. 👏Thank you to Louise Boaz and Saul Foolen-Shearer from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), who provided the legal definition of a #biocide, an overview of the regulatory framework, and the categorisation of some common biocide/cosmetic borderline products. 👉 Product classification is essential to understand legal compliance requirements, ensures products are safe, and protects consumers from being misled into believing products may have functions which they do not.  #cosmetics #cosmeticsregulation #productclassification

Today, CTPA submitted its response to the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) consultation on the Alternative Transitional Registration model (ATRm) for the UK Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals (UK REACH) Regulation.  👉 Please download the response here: https://lnkd.in/eQrf7V3r On 16 May 2024, Defra published its consultation on the Alternative Transitional Registration model (ATRm) under the UK Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals regulation. The deadline to respond to this consultation is 25 July 2024: https://lnkd.in/ejvbXXa9 Further information is available here : https://lnkd.in/eWSHp7Yx Cosmetic ingredients are covered by UK REACH so it will impact cosmetics companies. The ATRm proposes alternative registration requirements which protect humans and the environment, but are much less burdensome for industry, and it is therefore important to provide feedback on the proposal to ensure it is as workable as possible for companies. CTPA submitted its response to the consultation, which represents the views of its membership. In addition, CTPA strongly encourages individual companies and organisations to submit their own responses, to reinforce key messages and to ensure the Government is aware of impactful, company-specific information. #UKReach #Defra

The International Cooperation on Cosmetics Regulation (ICCR) held its 18th Cycle in Taipei City, Taiwan, hosted by Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) and the Taiwan Cosmetics Industry Association (TWCIA). CTPA was honoured to join a successful meeting in an observer capacity with the UK Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS). CTPA was represented by Dr Emma Meredith and Nico Shaw Núñez.
