A new report published by Cumberland Lodge and St Paul's Cathedral, London has highlighted that Gen Z are more likely to speak out against work practices that misalign with their values than older generations. The report was launched at St Paul's Cathedral last night with an intergenerational panel discussion around Gen Z and the workplace, particularly in the finance sector. Panellists joined from across the finance and education sector, including Cumberland Lodge's Programme Director Professor melissa butcher, Nadia Minors, Head of Compliance at Vocalink, a Mastercard company, Clement Hutton-Mills, Managing Director at Goldman Sachs and Non-Executive Chapter Member and Lay Canon at St Paul’s Cathedral, and Yunus Alom and Katerina Karamani representing Gen Z. An educational charity and social enterprise, empowering young people to lead the conversation around social division.
About us
We can’t change what we don’t understand. That’s why, in a world of extreme inequality and political polarisation, we believe it’s not our differences that divide us, but our inability to recognise, discuss, debate and respect those differences. Cumberland Lodge is an educational charity and social enterprise that exists to empower young people to lead the conversation around social division. Providing them with the skills, perspective and confidence to question, challenge and understand some of the most complex social issues of our time. Set in the heart of Windsor Great Park, this is a space for challenging conversations. An open door to new perspectives. Where great minds don’t always think alike. A place where a multi-generational, intercultural, cross-sector programme of conferences, talks and events means that people from all walks of life, can come together to be seen, heard and understood. A space for common ground. Where open dialogue can close divides. And the leaders and change makers of the future can learn how to agree to disagree, better – creating a more peaceful, open and inclusive society, one conversation at a time.

"Walking in was an awkward experience as I am rarely acquainted to such historical places, but learning the history and how it makes some people feel, allowed me to feel differently." 💬 A month on from the launch of our Youth Arts Takeover, take a look at the portraits created by young people from Together As One (Aik Saath) and Immediate Theatre, displayed here at the Lodge in conversation with our existing artwork 🖼️ The Takeover was supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund. You can view the online gallery and share your thoughts on the artwork here: https://lnkd.in/ehqiNbv8 #EmpoweringConversations #YouthArts #photography #Heritage

A week was spent at Cumberland Lodge learning from and with the best brilliant minds across the UK. It was a chance to engage the funder perspective, especially when it involves data generation, hosting and sharing, and managing power imbalances between developed and LMIC scientists.
Thank you Winfred Gatua for sharing your experiences of a recent conference to help PhD students prepare for life beyond their PhDs. https://lnkd.in/exeyW-ZN

We’re partnering with Cumberland Lodge to explore how young people’s values are shaping the corporate, social and creative sectors in the City of London.💡 With economic challenges, questions of intergenerational (in)justice, technological innovation and shifting social boundaries, an atmosphere of uncertainty is impacting young people’s expectations of their futures. Join us at a special evening event, Gen Z and the City, to launch this project. On 8th October we’re hosting an inter-generational conversation, featuring findings from initial research with speakers from the corporate sector, reflecting on intergenerational differences and how these might be managed. About a month ago, I had the privilege of returning to Cumberland Lodge as the artist practitioner delivering a poetry workshop for the incredibly talented teenagers from Together As One (Aik Saath) and Immediate Theatre during the Youth Arts Takeover. We explored the question, 'What does heritage mean to you?' through creative expression. Working alongside Theresa Macharia (photography) and Kinetika (textile design), we spent two days creating flags, capturing photographs, and writing/recording powerful poems. The creativity and depth these young people brought to their work truly blew me away. Their artwork, including the poems we crafted together, is now proudly displayed around the Lodge. Populism is complex and often misunderstood. In my discussion with Steph Coulter from the Bennett Institute for Public Policy on the Democracy 101 podcast, we explore how to identify populist movements and how they gain traction, which is key for making informed decisions in today's polarised landscape.
