How can introducing capsule sponge testing help tackle workforce and capacity challenges? The latest edition of Gastroenterology Today covers TWO examples 👉 https://lnkd.in/ezcSEVP Pages 6 - 7 feature our partnership with Xyla to offer greater flexibility for Trusts that want to run clinics to support their endoscopy capacity, but are in need of extra support. Pages 13 - 14 include a case study on the nurse-led capsule sponge clinics running in University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, and how resource savings and opportunities for training have combined to help the team improve staff retention and access to care.

BSG 2024 was an absolute blast! It was fantastic to see the enthusiasm for capsule sponge, particularly when attendees could try the procedure themselves and listen to the latest evidence from their peers. Key findings included the capsule sponge pathways helping improve patient triage and release resources for necessary endoscopies. East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust recently published their findings from the successful three-year pilot for the capsule sponge test, including positive experiences from both clinicians and patients. Bob Ayling, one of the first east Kent patients to try the test who opted in after being diagnosed with Barrett’s oesophagus, said “compared to the gastroscopy procedure, I would take this every single day”. It is encouraging to see such successful outcomes for patients and the support for the continued roll out to other sites across Kent and Medway. Our collaboration with Microsoft Research has been published in Nature Communications. The research focused on the development of machine learning tools for the earlier and faster detection of Barrett’s esophagus, a precursor to esophageal cancer.   The article titled “Enabling large-scale screening of Barrett’s oesophagus using weakly supervised deep learning in histopathology” details innovative research to optimise clinical workflows and enhance the earlier identification of cancer with technology.    Read more about this work here: https://lnkd.in/e7Z7iGfU   #earlydetection #ai #machinelearning
