At last! a genuinely CPG shopper friendly significant initiative from Amazon!! Amazon is obviously great at many things, but it has always been rubbish when it comes to the shopper experience of buying grocery items (as compared to many leading grocery dotcoms) with a hugely confusing interface and an experience which just isn't akin to how shoppers like to shop for groceries online. This trial in the US is looking to address that, offering Prime shoppers the opportunity to shop from one set of combined inventory across Amazon, Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods. Well done! Why is Nike coming back to Amazon? It was big news when Nike pulled the Amazon plug five years ago, and it's really no surprise that as their business has tanked this year some bright spark has suggested that maybe they do need to be availale direct on the world's biggest online retailer after all... Of course Nike's woes are due to more than just not selling on Amazon: a hugely optimistic pricing strategy has turned many a shopper away too! But this does make the point that to win online you need to encompass all routes to market in your sales strategy, and not lean too heavily on one above all others (for Nike it was DTC). One of the main reasons shoppers choose to buy from a digital store over a real world one is CONVENIENCE; they can shop when they want, for what they want and then choose a delivery time to suit them too.
