Installation of site access tracks and compounds for Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks for the Rothienorman to Fyvie 33kV HDD Cable Works project. Following the recent delivery of our second brand new Ditch Witch AT120, our team put the machine to work for the first time and are currently working on site between Insch and Huntly. The team have been utilising the capabilities of the new Ditch Witch AT120 as well as the Ditch Witch AT40. Thank you to Ditch Witch for the supply of our new AT120 and thank you to DAM Geotechnical Services for their assistance with designs. Recent ground investigation up near Inverness with a combination of 103 CPT's by Lankelma Ltd, 9 cable percussion boreholes by Phoenix Drilling Limited, 33 window samplers by GD Drilling Ltd and 55 mechanically excavated trial pits (with 6 BRE 365 soakaways) by our own Stephen Milne. #groundinvestigation #gi #phase2 #drilling #cpt #windowsampling #cablepercussion

Recent geotechnical and geophysical investigations in Invergarry for our valued client Nicol Of Skene Ltd for multiple proposed Horizontal Direction Drills (HDDs) for new cabling for the nearby large Coire Ghlas pumped storage project. The project consisted of dynamic sampling with rotary cored follow-on (GD Drilling Ltd) through strong granite, with electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) through inaccessible woodland and across the River Garry. Combining geophysics with intrusive GI allows us to 'join the dots' and produce a more accurate ground model. Laboratory UCS and point load testing of rock core will allow assessment of any zones of weaker rock to avoid when the Client designs their HDD path. This can help to reduce the risk of frac outs of drilling mud, especially relevant when drilling under rivers. Geophys kit by Guideline Geo, survey equipment by Emlid. #hdd #geotechnical #geophysical #ert

Recent investigations for a proposed battery storage (BESS) project near Glasgow. The site is challenging, having significant made ground extents, compounded by underlying unrecorded mineworkings in the near-surface bedrock deposits. Our investigations consisted of CPT (by GE Solutions Consulting Ltd.), rotary cored (included angled bores of a suspected unrecorded mineshaft) drilling under Coal Authority permit (by Phoenix Drilling Limited), window sampler drilling (by GD Drilling Ltd) and trial pitting. #cpt #rotary #drilling #cmra #coalmining #bess

DAM were recently appointed to undertake internal slab coring and rotary drilling incorporating dynamic sampling, SPT and rock coring. To complicate matters, a historic 3m water channel associated with a former power station still underlies the building, with the structure piled in and around this channel. Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) was ineffective in locating this channel due to metallic sheeting underlying the floor slab and hence accurate drone photogrammetry and georeferencing of historic imagery was required in order to position boreholes safely. Piezometric groundwater loggers were installed in wellpoints to monitor the tidal influence of the nearby River Clyde on groundwater levels. Thanks to GD Drilling Ltd for another safe and efficient project. #geoenvironmental #rotary #drilling #gpr
