Dr. Tékouabou is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Sciences and Educational Technologies of the Higher Teaching Training College of the University of Yaoundé I, Cameroon, and has previously worked as a Research Scientist at the Center of Urban System (CUS) at Mohamed VI Polytechnic University. He holds a PhD from Chouaib Doukkali University and specializes in computer vision, artificial intelligence, machine learning, deep learning, urban engineering, and educational technologies. He also serves as an associate editor for the African Cities Journal. Dr. Zimba brings a wealth of expertise to our community. He is the Executive Dean of the Malawi Institute of Technology, founding Lead of the Center for Artificial Intelligence and STEAM (CAIST), and Associate Professor of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science at Malawi University of Science and Technology. Some of Dr. Zimba’s notable contributions include co-authoring key African Union reports such as: AI for Africa: Artificial Intelligence for Africa’s Socio-economic Development, Regulation and Responsible Adoption of AI for Africa Towards Achievement of AU Agenda 2063 AUDA-NEPAD Artificial Intelligence Continental Roadmap for Africa He is also a reviewer for renowned AI research institutions and conferences, including Deep Learning Indaba and AAAI’s AI Ethics & Society, and is a leading voice in Malawi’s AI and data dialogue. Dr Sharique Hassan Manazir - Distinguished scholar at the Kautilya School of Public Policy, specializing in Policy Science and Digital Democracy. Our goal is to promote new theories and insights into how data and policy systems interact. Dr. Zwick’s expertise will be invaluable as we continue to push these discussions forward. Austin Zwick, PhD is an Associate Teaching Professor at Syracuse University with a joint appointment to the Maxwell School of Citizenship & Public Affairs and the College of Professional Studies. He also serves as Senior Research Associate for the Autonomous Systems Policy Institute and Director of the Bachelor of Professional Studies in Policy Studies program. He brings extensive experience, having co-edited key publications on urban policy and the platform economy, and as a former Associate Editor for the journal IET Smart Cities. 📢 New Guidance from the White House: Advancing Responsible AI in Government 🏛️ The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) has just released critical new guidance, Advancing the Responsible Acquisition of Artificial Intelligence in Government memorandum (M-24-18) to ensure the responsible acquisition and use of AI technologies across government agencies. This move is essential to fostering transparency, accountability, and safety in the deployment of AI systems. 🔑 Key highlights from the memorandum: Managing AI risks and performance by involving privacy officials early in the process and working with vendors to ensure responsible use. Promoting a competitive AI marketplace by minimizing vendor lock-in and emphasizing transparency and interoperability. Encouraging cross-agency collaboration to navigate AI’s rapidly evolving landscape and ensure responsible implementation.
