Each year, De Vere organises our You Are De Vere Awards Gala to celebrate our outstanding employees from across the De Vere portfolio and it was our absolute pleasure to host these awards last Friday. Our Grade II listed Mansion House has a fascinating history that dates back to the 1560s, and recently we were lucky enough to meet a relative of one of the families that used to live in it and very kindly sent us these photos from the 1900s. Pictured here is Alice and Alfred; Dr Alfred Palmer was the second son of George Palmer of Huntley & Palmers (a famous biscuit factory that was located in Reading). He was the engineering director at the firm and the High Sheriff of Berkshire in 1905. He bought the Estate in 1901 and it was sold when he passed in 1936. His wife Alice Exall, was the daughter of William Exall, who was a partner in the firm of Barrett, Exall & Andrewes, makers of agricultural machinery in Reading. Here you can see Alice reading in what was their sitting room, but is now an event space called The Old Lounge. The fireplace still remains to this day! The group photo was taken on Alice & Alfred's golden wedding anniversary in 1927 and you can clearly see the Mansion House behind them. More fun and games, this time at De Vere Horsley Estate for The De Vere Agency Quiz Night - South! Last Friday, our Director of Sales, Camilla Bailey hosted a table at the second night of the Agency Quiz Night in the beautiful Horsley Towers. There were around 120 guests in total, with agents from across the South in attendance. We thoroughly enjoyed participating in the activities with you all and had such a laugh.
