  • Breaking the Silence on Youth Loneliness Last Thursday, we gathered at the Royal Danish Embassy in London for a conference on youth loneliness. With insightful contributions from Marie-Elise Howells, Simone Bodholdt, Julie Amanda Kronberg Jakobsen, Pamela Qualter, Judith Merkies, Louise Solgård Hvas, Helayna Carole Jenkins IEng, Jan Gurung, Antonia Ypsilanti and Andrea Wigfield, we explored how both Denmark and the UK can learn from each other in tackling this growing challenge. The rise of loneliness among young people is a complex and pressing issue. It is shaped by many possible factors—mental health struggles, academic pressure, the influence of social media, and changes in the way we interact. But more than anything, loneliness is not just about being alone—it is about feeling disconnected. Denmark and the UK have each taken unique approaches to addressing this issue. Denmark has long prioritized social inclusion and mental well-being, focusing on peer support, mentorship programs, and community-driven initiatives to strengthen youth connections. The UK, on the other hand, took a groundbreaking step in 2018 by launching A Connected Society: A Strategy for Tackling Loneliness, becoming the first country in the world to appoint a ministerial lead for loneliness. This bold move reinforced the idea that loneliness is not just a personal struggle—it is a societal issue that requires structural solutions. 💡The key takeaway from the conference? Loneliness is rarely just about the individual; it is shaped by the world around them. This conference was not just about words—it was about action. The discussions we had were meaningful, but they must also lead to tangible change. Because no young person should feel unseen, unheard, or uninvited. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed, attended, and shared their insights. Let’s keep the conversation going and work together to ensure no young person feels alone. #YouthLoneliness #Community #InspirationAcrossBorders #MentalHealth #SocialInclusion

Proud mom look 😂 . Danish experiences were part of FutureScot - Health & Care Transformation, where Morten Elbæk Petersen shared insights on sundhed.dk – Denmark’s digital front door to healthcare, integrating data from 100+ databases into one of the country’s most-used apps. Thomas Rysgaard Christiansen provided a strong overview of the DK digital landscape and how systems connect to make it easier for citizens to navigate healthcare. In Scotland, work is underway to build a digital front door for both health and care (not just an NHS app). As Jonathan Cameron said about the benefits, the real value lies in giving citizens control over their own health journey. This takes time, legacy systems need renewal. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither was DK digital landscape. That’s why external experiences matter. And maybe DK can take insp. from Scotland’s innovation models like Civtech and ANIA pathway, Professor Dame Anna Dominiczak provided insight into the methods in an exciting panel alongside Christine McLaughlin CBE, Nicola Dickie + the Danes on Scotland’s digital future. Insightful session on AI in breast and lung cancer screening by @Dr. Gerald Lip and, David Lowe and Ian MacIntyre on AI in NHS. Bonus info for the Danes: I heard the other day that Scotland might be one of the first countries to prescribe an app for citizens struggling with mental health. Kevin O'Sullivan, thanks for inviting DK, and Donna Henderson and David J Smith for taking the time to meet me 🙏

  • Still savouring the memories of last week’s unforgettable culinary event! 🍽️ Our celebration of Denmark’s culinary evolution was more than just a showcase of exquisite flavors—it was a testament to the country’s deep-rooted commitment to quality, sustainability, and innovation in food. As Jan Bay-Smidt, Minister Counsellor at The Royal Danish Embassy in London, so eloquently put it: “The Danish stronghold on gastronomy is the result of a long tradition of dedicated farmers, world-class food producers, and visionary chefs continuously developing high-quality products and creating great taste. Danish gastronomy covers much more than fine dining and Michelin stars. It is about securing better food for people and planet. It is about sustainability, productivity, food safety, organic food, plant-rich alternatives, and much more.” From the insightful panel discussion on the democratisation of high-quality food to the spectacular show-cooking experience with Kamilla Seidler Trebbien, the event underscored how Denmark’s food industry is setting new standards for both taste and responsibility. Swipe through for more highlights from an evening that truly celebrated the best of Danish gastronomy! 📸🍽️ #DanishGastronomy #SustainableFood #FoodInnovation #DenmarkUK

  • 🔋 How Sønderborg is leading the race to carbon neutrality While many cities are struggling to meet their climate targets, the Danish town of Sønderborg is ahead of schedule. By investing in energy efficiency, district heating, and clean energy, the town has already cut emissions by 66% and aims to be carbon-neutral by 2029. This success is not just about sustainability—it’s about economic growth, energy security, and innovation. Companies like Danfoss have played a key role, showing that the private sector and municipalities can work together to drive meaningful change. 🔗 Read more: https://lnkd.in/dNbphnVJ #Sustainability #GreenTransition #Denmark #ClimateLeadership

  • The UK government’s ten-year NHS plan is taking inspiration from Denmark’s healthcare system – a model of prevention, digitalisation, and community-based care. Denmark has successfully reduced hospital visits, cut down waiting times, and embraced cutting-edge technology like AI-driven ultrasounds and remote brain surgery. Meanwhile, community health initiatives, backed by foundations like Novo Nordisk, have helped slash diabetes rates. Now, the NHS is looking to adopt these principles, shifting from hospital to community, analogue to digital, and sickness to prevention.
