Business Consulting and Services
Accelerating the realisation of social and economic rights for all through policy advice and services.
About us
We are the leading global consultancy specialising in designing and developing social protection systems – one fundamental way that governments can guard people from poverty and vulnerability. Our team has delivered over 150 projects for governments, the UN and many other clients from Brazil to Vietnam since 2010. A British-Kenyan company, we began when Stephen Kidd and Richard Chirchir put their heads together with a group of like-minded development professionals to change the way countries address poverty, inequality and other key development challenges. Since then, our offices in London and Nairobi have grown considerably and we have recently expanded our work around the globe with our new office in Australia. As our knowledge and experience expands, our mission remains the same: to accelerate the realisation of social and economic rights for all through policy advice and services. What unites our diverse global team, from economists and policy experts to software developers, is our passion to change people’s lives for the better. We deliver on this mission by providing bespoke, evidence-based advice on social policy challenges and solutions that are sustainable and tailored to specific contexts, enabling governments to take informed decisions based on clear objectives and robust analysis.

Guyana has just introduced a UBI, initially a one-off payment for one year of £370 per person. They rejected the alternative of a household benefit. It'll be interesting to see if there is sufficient popular pressure for it to become an annual event. https://lnkd.in/ecBuT4jn.

Thrilled to be a part of the Arab Reform Initiative's 2nd Annual Regional Policy Forum on Nov 7th, where Stephen Kidd will join an expert panel discussing how universal social protection isn't just desirable - it's financially feasible! While IFIs often push Arab States toward poverty-targeted safety nets through loans, we at Development Pathways have consistently shown that universal approaches are more sustainable and effective. The real question isn't whether countries can afford universal social protection, but whether they can afford not to implement it. The panel discussion will explore concrete financing alternatives with regional experts - from progressive taxation to innovative funding mechanisms. 🗓️ Date: Thursday, 7 November 2024 🕑 Time: 8:45 AM - 10 AM GMT 🔗 Register here: https://lnkd.in/dTU9KEe6 Gunnel Axelsson Nycander Luca Pellerano #SocialProtection #MENA #Development #UniversalSocialProtection #SocialPolicy

We have a new blog! In response to Stephen Kidd's blog in which he confessed to being a former true believer in poverty targeting, Nicholas Freeland, an independent social protection consultant and Senior Associate at Development Pathways, offers his personal experiences and thoughts on poverty targeting, workfare and the use of conditions. From questioning the practicality of identifying the "non-viable poor" to condemning punitive social assistance models, Freeland calls for a more compassionate, universal approach to social protection.
