'When I saw the advert for trustees, I was immediately drawn to it, as a supporter of what DAA does, I welcomed the opportunity to join the charity and make a difference myself. In 2021 a family member suffered a serious farming accident and became a patient of the DAA. As a result of the excellent care received from the team he made a full recovery, and our family saw first-hand the tremendous impact the service makes. If you, or someone you know, is interested in becoming a Trustee, go for it - it’s a great opportunity to meet new people and learn new skills and there are lots of different ways to get involved.' During Trustee's week, we hear from our Chair of Trustees, Will Matthewman who explains why this vital role brings with it great responsibility and also great reward. 'Trustees are the ‘eyes and ears’ of the public. It is our job to hold the leaders of DAA to account, making sure the money that is donated is put to the best possible use. Being a Trustee means committing time and energy to Devon Air Ambulance, but it’s worth it! Trustees have the chance to make a real difference, learn new skills along the way and spend time with our fantastic team of people. Getting to know how the charity operates and becoming familiar with the unusual combination of helicopters, doctors and paramedics, is very rewarding. By supporting specific initiatives, such as our Green Team, helping at fund-raising events or visiting our shops, Trustees get to be part of the Devon Air Ambulance team.' We are pleased to announce that a new Chief Executive will soon be joining us following the decision of our current leader, Heléna Holt, to step down in the New Year following her 17 years at the helm. Our board has recently appointed Greg Allen - who lives in Devon with his family, to lead us in to the next exciting chapter for Devon Air Ambulance. Greg is currently the Interim Chief Executive of the national Point of Care Foundation and a Board Trustee of the national Shaw Trust. We look forward to welcoming Greg to Devon Air Ambulance in January and working with him to help us continue to deliver critical care and lifesaving treatment to the people in Devon and beyond. Heléna’s leadership has steered us through a period of enormous transformation and growth and has been instrumental in developing our iconic reputation and status across the county and nationally. Along with our board, we are sure that staff, supporters and partners will join us in paying tribute to Heléna for her incredible legacy to Devon Air Ambulance, its patients, families and communities. Huge thanks to everyone at Bays Brewery for offering us the chance to benefit from one of their fantastic charity brews. This summer we were thrilled to be chosen by Bays to take part in this incredible fundraising venture - the creation of our very own Devon Air Ambulance 'Chopper' Ale. It has been a complete sell out so a great big thank you to everyone that has supported us by buying a bottle of Chopper in support of our charity! An amazing £1350 has been raised. #SavingLivesTogether #BaysBrewery

Here are our Monthly Mission Stats for October which shows some interesting highlights for another very busy month. In October we were tasked to a total of 208 incidents, that’s an average of 6 missions per day. Our helicopters were deployed 84 times, our Critical Care Cars 108 times, plus, our Volunteer Responder Team were also called to help on 14 occasions. We were tasked to 55.8% trauma emergencies and 43.8% medical emergencies. Some of these took us across our county borders as we were tasked to respond to 8 patients in Somerset and 1 in Dorset. We attended 65.3% Male patients and 34.7% Female. The number of Road Traffic Collisions we were tasked to was 35, more than double the amount in September (14). As the dark nights creep in and wet weather is more regularly featured in our weather forecast, roads become slippery and visibility pretty poor. Coupled with the sudden mist and fog patches that we are accustomed to in Devon, it's important that we all take extra care on our roads this autumn and leave plenty of time to reach our destination safely. Our busiest days of the week were Saturdays where we were tasked to 28 missions so please do take extra care when enjoying your well earned leisure time. We were tasked to 45 missions in the hours of darkness and the hospital we visited most was Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital.
