A couple of weeks ago, some of our HR team visited Nuneaton and North Warwickshire Equestrian Centre to help out. It was all part of Global Volunteering Day, part of our mission of connecting people and improving lives. It was a good thing the weather held out as the team got stuck into painting fences! NNWEC has been providing riding for the disabled lessons and have since branched out as an approved BHS Riding Centre to provide services for the Changing Lives Through Horses program. It’s time to meet another member of our brilliant team! This month we chatted to Victoria Reynard about her proudest moment and industry changes. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲? “As Regional Sales Manager for the North & Scotland and National Direct Sales Manager, I’ve got a field-based commercial team – which is a mix of new business and account managers – and a direct sales team including telesales. I really love seeing people grow, learn and flourish. And the best thing about sales is every success we have feeds into the business’ bottom line.” 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗗𝗛𝗟 𝗲𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝗨𝗞 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁? “A lot of companies say they’re customer centric. However I sit on our customer centric committee, and we’ve got real rich data from clients which we use to fine tune our processes. It’s nice to genuinely say we’re working for customers… we’ve had so many improvement initiatives come out of their feedback. And our team have a voice too with the annual employee opinion survey. As a leader you serve your team, not the other way around, so that feedback is so important.” 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲? “Listening and empathy… we celebrate diversity here, which is great because it enriches ideas, and because we have diverse backgrounds you have to put yourself in their shoes in order to collaborate.” 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗶𝗻-𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂’𝗿𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗱 𝗼𝗳? “In my first full year, as a team overall we came in over target and the scores as we got from the employee opinion survey skyrocketed. I think I got the highest score for a manager in employee feedback! I’m not nice all the time, but I’m honest (it’s a Northern thing to say it like it is!), and I’ve set clear guidelines about what excellent looks like.” 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁? “It’s a mature and saturated market and customers expect excellence. There’s a cost associated with that excellence; we sit at the more premium end of the market and when the economy is in downturn and people are watching the pennies, we have to consistently add value. That’s why all the new innovations we’re working on now are great.” 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁? “I’m a mental health first aider and wellbeing champion. Mind is very close to my heart: they’re a brilliant organisation. My father had mental illnesses… and there are lots of men in our workforce so encouraging them to open up is important.”
