As part of Vicon’s VFX Pioneer Program, we put their new markerless motion-capture system to the test, tracking actors without suits and streaming their movements straight into Shogun and Unreal Engine. In just one day, we shot “Memories”, a rapid visualisation test film that shows the fast, flexible, and friction-free results. With zero calibration time, our team jumped straight in, workshopped ideas, and saw results instantly on live MetaHumans in our virtual worlds – letting us focus on what matters most: the story. A glimpse at the virtual production behind Netflix Italy’s promo for The Leopard. Our team created otherworldly virtual environments with towering Roman pillars, floating candelabra and an impressive firework display that played out on our partner LED stage at Cinecittà Studios. The show’s cast danced within this dreamlike world, pausing to watch the fireworks across the virtual sky. The LED volume captured natural interaction with lighting and the physical elements through ICVFX, elevating the performance. The result was over 100,000 frames of data that preserved the exquisite and beautifully detailed costumes. We’re excited to share Vanity Fair’s new issue featuring a unique use case of virtual production as a promotional shoot for Netflix Italy's #TheLeopard. The photoshoot features the show’s four protagonists Deva Cassel, Saul Nanni, Benedetta Porcaroli, and Kim Rossi Stuart and was shot against a 3D environment built by us in #UnrealEngine, on the LED volume at our virtual production setup in Cinecitta Studios, Rome. 'The Leopard' is based on the novel of the same name by Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa and will be released on Netflix Italy on March 5. Virtual Rome wasn’t built in a day… Read the in-depth case study and watch our behind the scenes film on the virtual production work we delivered for Roland Emmerich’s Ancient Roman epic ‘Those About To Die’. Alongside vast landscapes and impressive locations delivered in 1,800 final pixel shots using virtual production, Dimension also rolled out an innovative volumetric crowd workflow to fill the virtual stadiums. As Roland Emmerich explains in our film, there was an air of authenticity that was needed for the show and that’s what our team strived to deliver. The virtual production shoot took place at the legendary Cinecitta Studios in Romem where studio T18 features a 24-metre revolving stage and an 8-metre tall, 51-metre U-shaped LED volume. This is the largest permanent Virtual Production Stage in continental Europe and the show required much of this to be in focus at the same time - a technical challenge that our virtual production team met with an impressive solution.
