Shell has a major interest in the Dragon facility, which has the capacity to meet up to 10% of the country’s gas needs. Milford Haven CO2 Project is being brought forward by partners on either side of the Milford Haven – RWE and Dragon LNG and Dragon Energy. The project leverages each partner’s advanced engineering and existing expertise to support a sustainable future for Wales and the wider UK. The Partners: Milford Haven CO2 Project is being brought forward by partners on either side of the Milford Haven – RWE and Dragon LNG – working with The Acorn Project. There is a need to work together to find solutions to reduce climate emissions at Pembroke Power Station. The project leverages each partner’s advanced engineering and existing expertise to support a sustainable future for South Wales. RWE is the owner and operator of Pembroke Power Station and is working collaboratively to drive decarbonisation across the region’s industrial processes as a lead partner of the South Wales Industrial Cluster. Dragon LNG operate an LNG Terminal north of the Milford Haven, connecting liquefied natural gas from shipping routes to the UK gas network. Dragon LNG would liquefy and load CO2 for transport. Partners are working with: Acorn, as part of The Scottish Cluster, has the capability to provide a CO₂ receiving and permanent storage solution for a range of diverse emitters across the UK. Acorn could receive and safely store CO2 permanently.

I recently met the brilliant team at the Dragon LNG (liquefied natural gas) facility in Milford Haven, Wales. The terminal, in which Shell has a major interest, helps supply up to 10% of the UK's gas demand. I saw the gas storage tanks – each one big enough to house the Royal Albert Hall – where LNG is pumped and stored at -160 degrees Celsius. It’s then turned back into gas so it can be piped to UK customers, ready to be used to heat homes and power businesses. Having studied engineering myself, admittedly many years ago, I was especially struck by the regasification unit and the complex processes that work together to safely and reliably deliver gas. Thank you Simon Ames, Mike Warburton all the Dragon staff for hosting and for managing this key part of the UK’s energy infrastructure. #EnergySecurity #LNG #PoweringProgress
