Well done to everyone who took part!
For the company’s recent volunteering day, a nearly 50-strong group of Drayton employees volunteered at Mount Edgcumbe House & Gardens, helping to support the local green spaces. At the Plymouth site in Southway Drive the Drayton Controls team have hugely reduced their carbon footprint from over 600 tonnes in 2017 to just under 50 tonnes in 2023. This was achieved through the purchase of 100 percent green energy, reducing single use plastics in the supply chain by 99 percent, increasing the site’s biodiversity, more efficient gas heating, among numerous other projects that have enhanced energy efficiency. MCIPHE. Sustainable Installer of the Year 2024. Yorkshire and Humber Installer of the Year, 22,23,24. Viessmann Installer. Heatgeek Elite.
So it’s finally happened. Just over a years worth of third party monitoring data on an heatpump install I did and it’s achieve a SCOP of 5.01. That’s 500% efficient for combined heating and hot water. Some said it couldn’t be done, some will still try to pull it down, but what turned out just to be a job to decarbonise my customers home has turned into something a lot more. People ask what is special about this job and what is special about me. The answer to both is nothing. It’s a 100 year old property, standard loft insulation, cavity wall and double glazing. Speedfit pipe on the heating system and we used the existing pipework. Installation cost of £17500 with £5k bus grant to come off that. 40°c design temperature and 9 out of 16 radiators where replaced with k3s. There was no where tonight the cylinder so we utilised the unused space under the stairs. The customer has pv and batteries and actively imports and exports, touch a degree last year his complete running cost for his home was -£34. The unit is also oversized now as we added rockwool under the suspended floor later on, if we had done this before then we would have got away with an 8kw maybe. He stores his hot water lower as he uses the quooker to warm his sink water. Is the job perfect, no it’s not, but it’s perfect for the homeowner. If someone else moved in no doubt the performance would change, but we design for the client and for the home. My goal is to try and achieve something better, how and when I’m not sure off as truthfully I still don’t know how exactly I achieved this but for now I’ll enjoy the fact it’s the first “monitored” system in the world to achieve 500% via open energy monitoring.
