The Dreadnought Programme is of the utmost importance to the security of the UK, indeed the world.

About us

The Dreadnought programme is about the design, development and manufacture of four new Dreadnought class ballistic missile submarines. When they enter service in the early 2030s, replacing the Vanguard Class, they will be the largest submarines ever operated by the Royal Navy. The submarines will be built in 16 units, grouped into three ‘mega units’ (Aft, Mid and Forward) in order to optimise the overall build timeframe. Each submarine will be built by BAE Systems Submarines in Barrow-in-Furness and their nuclear propulsion systems will be built by Rolls Royce Submarines in Derby. The build phase for all four submarines will take approximately 20 years.

Imagine what it must have been like to be one of the first women in the UK to serve on board a submarine. Have a listen to this fascinating interview with Lieutenant Ami Burns from the Submariners' Stories project. Ami was one of the first three female Marine Engineers to go through the Submarine Service’s training programme in the UK and one of the first working on board what had previously been a male-only environment. Her passion and dedication to expanding her already extensive knowledge on the subject of nuclear submarines has led to Ami most recently being selected for promotion to Lieutenant Commander. We're proud to be building the new Dreadnought Class submarines for the Royal Navy – the first of their kind to be built with separate female crew quarters, toilets and washing facilities. Take a listen to Ami's insightful interview through the link in the first comment… 👇 #Engineering #WomenInEngineering #WomenInSTEM

Looking after our mental health and wellbeing is essential in staying emotionally healthy. Self-care is an important factor in looking after everyone’s mental health; equally important for the submariner is looking out for the wellbeing of their shipmates (seniors, peers, and subordinates).   A submarine crew which creates an environment of strong mental wellbeing is much more productive while deployed.   HMS Dreadnought is affiliated to ‘HELP Jim’s Story’ (www.help-jimsstory.com), a fund established under the Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity; the aim of the charity is to promote the importance of mental health awareness, and in particular suicide, through training. End the silence – start the conversation.   #MentalHealth #MentalWellbeing #Submariners #SilentService

The Continuous At Sea Deterrent (CASD) benefits from the stealth of its submarines. To help achieve this, once a boat goes on patrol it needs to be self-sufficient for long periods of time; without returning to base. 📌 Discover more about the new Dreadnought Class submarines that we're building for the Royal Navy – check out the link ⬇ https://lnkd.in/eD-YkVmh #FactFriday #RoyalNavy #submarines #engineering #design #technology

"I am currently serving with the Royal Navy, and my journey with Dreadnought started shortly after birth, when I was christened aboard the original HMS Dreadnought submarine in 1975!   "It's a great feeling to be working on the Dreadnought Programme and most rewarding to recognise that my efforts throughout my career allow me to now play such an important part in the delivery of the next generation of Dreadnought."   – Doug is supporting the Dreadnought Programme through his work with the Submarine Delivery Agency.   You can read more of Doug's Dreadnought Career Story through the link in the comments… ⬇   #Engineering #RoyalNavy #Submarines

💡 Day/ night lighting on board the new Dreadnought submarine – how does it work? Members of the ship's company will be in a watchkeeping routine, and the majority of the working areas and machinery spaces within the submarine at sea will be in normal 'white' lighting at all times. However, there will be times when it's appropriate to adopt different levels of lighting in messes, bunk spaces and certain other areas of the boat. Adaptive LED lighting will be used to do that – a first for a Royal Navy submarine.  📌 Find out more about the next generation of Dreadnought Class submarines here ⬇ https://lnkd.in/eD-YkVmh #FactFriday #RoyalNavy #Submarines
