🏆DVSA sponsors the British Independent Garage (BIG) awards🏆 As an award sponsor DVSA colleagues attended The Independent Garage Association (IGA) event in Birmingham on Friday 20 September. Neil Barlow, Head of Vehicle Policy and Engineering was there. He said: "All the finalists had to demonstrate exceptional levels of customer service but none more so than the award winners. “Events like these give us the opportunity to show our support to the garage industry. They highlight the hard work, dedication and excellence of independent garages.” The winner of Customer Choice The award went to Holmer Green Service Centre in Buckinghamshire. We caught up with winners and business partner Shane at the awards evening. Shane said: “We were delighted to win this award, in our view it’s the best one, as it is voted for by customers. “It’s an honour to be recognised for our dedication to providing the best service, and we look forward to continuing to serve both our local and wider community with the same passion and commitment.”

DVSA prison sentence first for dishonest CBT motorcycle trainer ⚖️ On Friday 13 September, at Wood Green Crown Court, Osman Ahmet was given a 28-month prison sentence for 9 offences of ‘adapting articles for use in fraud’ in the CBT (Compulsory Basic Training) scheme. 🏍️ This was the first time DVSA prosecuted a case for CBT fraud and secured a custodial sentence at the first attempt. 1️⃣ The case was investigated due to the unusually high number of CTB pass certificates issued by his company, A2Z Rider Training Ltd. Ahmet had issued at least 120 certificates to young riders. This put vulnerable road users who had little or no previous training at considerable risk leaving them to be a danger on the road to themselves and other drivers and riders. He had made a considerable amount of money from doing this, at least double of what he could have legitimately made. The case was initially entered into Willesden Magistrates court. They thought the case so serious, it was referred to crown court. The court was told that Ahmet forged signatures of trainers without their knowledge to put on the CBT certificates. This included those of trainers who no longer worked for the company. A case under the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA) against Ahmet is ongoing. DVSA has forcibly closed A2Z Rider Training Ltd which is no longer in business. 🚫
