    Where is Direct Carrier Billing (DCB) heading? The future is clear: DCB has the potential to evolve into a full-fledged financial service. This shift would be transformative, expanding DCB far beyond digital media into broader e-commerce and even physical retail. Imagine the possibilities! This could redefine how we approach different payment methods across industries and open up entirely new opportunities. The time for DCB to make its mark as a financial service is now. I was pleased to hear such talks happening at the recent Direct Carrier Billing conference in Amsterdam hosted by the Mobile Ecosystem Forum. The industry is on the lookout for the next groundbreaking use of DCB, with some innovative applications already emerging around the world. Examples include its use for meal purchases at Burger King in Turkey, paying for excess baggage on Safari flights in South Africa, and for food delivery services in Germany. Looking ahead, market estimates project strong growth. Global carrier-billed services are expected to increase from $66 billion in 2023 to $101 billion by 2028, largely driven by bundling strategies and add-on services. The core DCB market is set to rise from $41 billion to $48 billion in the same period, with growth opportunities expanding beyond traditional digital media.
