  • Have you read the latest report from the Vehicle Recyclers’ Association (VRA)? The report is full of valuable information and findings but we thought we would share some parts of the report that stood out to us. The report reveals that the reclaimed vehicle parts industry is resulting in significant carbon savings, with opportunities for even greater reductions in the future. However, some key challenges must be addressed to fully realise the environmental potential of reclaimed parts. 🌍 The VRA report underscores several key barriers that are hindering progress, including: 👉 Limited access to vehicle manufacturers' parts data - without transparency and accessibility to parts data, recyclers struggle to verify compatibility and quality, which can deter customers from choosing reclaimed parts. 👉 Regulatory hurdles - complex regulations can create obstacles for recyclers and manufacturers alike, making it challenging to navigate compliance while promoting sustainable practices. 👉 The need for robust enforcement of recycling standards - ensuring that all end-of-life vehicles are properly processed at authorised facilities is crucial. Weak enforcement can lead to non-compliance and undermine efforts to increase the use of reclaimed parts. We recognise the urgency of addressing these issues and believe industry collaboration is key. With governments, manufacturers, and recyclers working together, we can pave the way for greater progress in the parts reclamation process. To explore the report's findings and learn more about how we can collectively drive change, check out the full VRA report (link in the comments). #recycling #sustainability #environment

  • How sure are we that we’re storing and dismantling electric vehicles (EVs) correctly and safely? ⚡ Reading about the fire at a Essex salvage yard highlights a crucial issue… ⛔ There are some serious risks associated with storing and handling EVs. This incident underscores the importance of safety protocols, especially given the complexity and potential hazards of modern electric cars, which can have unknown faults in their battery systems or other components. EVs present unique challenges, such as the potential for battery fires that are harder to control compared to traditional vehicles, and this calls for specialised knowledge in both storage and dismantling practices, to prevent catastrophic events like this. Generally speaking, salvage yards SHOULD… ✔️ Create dedicated storage zones specifically for electric vehicles ✔️ Ensure all staff are properly trained in handling EVs ✔️ Work closely with fire safety experts to develop emergency response plans tailored to the unique hazards of electric vehicles And they SHOULD NOT… 🚫 Store damaged electric vehicles without active monitoring 🚫 Dismantle electric vehicles without first disconnecting and safely handling the battery system according to the manufacturer's guidelines 🚫 Overcharge or improperly handle batteries, which can lead to thermal runaway, causing fires or explosions At e2e, we take the risks associated with EVs very seriously. We not only want to operate under the safest possible conditions, but we also want to protect your brand. We aim to mitigate the risks and provide you with peace of mind that the vehicles in our care are managed to the highest safety standards. Find out more about e2e in the comments section below. • Did you know that reclaiming vehicle parts could be saving up to 3 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually in the UK? That’s the equivalent of the carbon footprint from manufacturing 24,000 new vehicles! 🚗 The latest report from the Vehicle Recyclers’ Association (VRA) sheds light on the massive impact the reclaimed vehicle parts industry has on reducing carbon emissions. With increasing pressure on the automotive industry to decarbonise, the report highlights the need for more robust enforcement and support for the recycling industry. At e2e we share in the VRA's belief that by making parts reuse more accessible, the industry can unlock even greater carbon savings. To achieve this, we must ensure that all end-of-life vehicles are properly recycled and delivered to authorised treatment facilities. Our own network of independent salvage and automotive recyclers is dedicated to this mission, working to promote low-carbon practices and enhance the circular economy in our sector. ♻️ For more insights into the future of vehicle recycling and its potential for carbon reduction, read the full VRA report.
