I was wondering how we arrived at the 85th annual conference when the EAGE was only founded in 1951. Then I found the history page on the website and realised that back in the 50s and 60s we were all very enthusiastic. Happily, I remain so for this year's conference. See you there.

On my first trip to the Biennial Geophysical Seminar many years ago I was struggling to understand why the flight from Oslo was taking so long to nip down the coast. Even after I landed I was still bemused. At last I realised there is a significant difference between a 'a' and a 'u' in the spelling of the location, and 'Kristiansund' wasn't simply the colloqial Norwegian version of 'Kristiansand'. I've been careful not to repeat that mistake since, so I hope to see you next week . . . !!
