We’re delighted that planning approval has been granted for the Mercers Row scheme - an exciting step forward for delivering high-quality, sustainable mid-tech space in the city. It’s been a pleasure collaborating on a project that not only regenerates the industrial estate but also sets a strong sustainability benchmark. We look forward to working with the team to bring this vision to life and delivering Phase 1 in early 2026! #Cambridge #MidTech #Sustainability #UrbanRegeneration #Architecture #Innovation
We are incredibly pleased to share that planning for our scheme on Mercers Row, Cambridge was approved at committee this week. We have enjoyed working closely in collaboration with Allies and Morrison for Wrenbridge and Fiera Real Estate UK to bring forward this new high-quality ‘mid-tech’ scheme in the centre of Cambridge, which will provide best in class flexible mid-tech space, high sustainability credentials as well as increased landscape and biodiversity benefits. The scheme will help regenerate the industrial estate whilst generating a masterplan template for bringing forward other sites in the estate and improving integration with the surrounding area. We are looking forward to working with the team and delivering the first phase in early 2026! Should a climate summit come at the cost of the environment? Earlier this week, our director Chris Hocknell was quoted in Newsweek, weighing in on the controversial deforestation taking place in the Amazon to build infrastructure for COP30. With thousands of acres being cleared for a new highway in Belém, the project raises a crucial question: Can a climate summit justify environmental damage in the name of accessibility? There's less than two weeks to go until our new event 'Key Considerations for Sustainable Retrofit and Optimising Lifecycle Carbon Footprint' with Agathe Revil-Signorat and Yiota Paraskeva from Eight Versa. This new training session will outline key factors to consider when retrofitting, and look at how to minimise a building’s carbon footprint over its lifecycle. This session is part of a new series with Eight Versa, comprised of: BREEAM V7 – What Does The Latest Comprehensive Overhaul Mean For Your Projects? 📅 13 May | 9:00 am – 11:00 am WELL Building Standard: Putting Wellbeing at the Heart of Your Building 📅 24 September | 11:00 am – 1:00 pm Sustainability for Planning: Joining The Dots 📅 12 November | 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm Visit our website to learn more: https://lnkd.in/eaKVyWZr

Last week, our Senior Sustainability and Health & Wellbeing Consultant, Erica Asta, and Sustainability and Environmental Assessment Consultant, Chie Kameyama, had the pleasure of attending the Alliance for Sustainable Building Products Healthy Buildings Conference and Expo 2025 at Amnesty International. The event brought together industry leaders, researchers, and practitioners to explore innovative approaches to healthier, more sustainable buildings. From insightful discussions on material health and circularity to inspiring case studies on low-carbon design, the conference reinforced the crucial link between sustainability and occupant wellbeing. It was an inspiring day filled with insightful discussions and valuable connections. A big thank you to the speakers, organisers, and attendees for making it such a thought-provoking event! Looking forward to continuing these conversations and driving positive change in the built environment. #Sustainability #HealthyBuildings #ASBPConference #SustainableDesign #Wellbeing

Nigeria visit series of field notes 1/5. Mangroves, Seagrass, and the Battle Against Nipa Palm Nigeria’s coastline is full of contrasts. On one hand, you have expansive mangrove forests, teeming with life, absorbing carbon, and acting as natural flood barriers. On the other, you have shorelines littered with waste, carried in from surface runoff and tides—plastic, debris, and pollution choking the very ecosystems meant to sustain life. Adding to the challenge is nipa palm, an invasive species that spreads aggressively, suffocating mangroves and blocking out the sunlight young mangrove seedlings need to grow. We saw entire areas overtaken, with local communities fully aware of the problem but stuck in the same cycle: there’s no business case for removing nipa palm, so it just keeps spreading. This is where our project (VCS 5224) comes in. We’re working on turning nipa palm into biochar—transforming what is currently waste into something useful: - A soil enhancer for agriculture - A tool for cleaning oil spills - A way to purify drinking water And then there’s the seagrass—another overlooked ecosystem under threat. While mangroves protect shorelines and provide nurseries for fish, seagrass beds stabilize sediments, filter the water, and act as crucial fish spawning grounds. The two ecosystems are interconnected, each dependent on the other to function properly. But with mangroves being lost to deforestation and nipa palm, seagrass suffers too. Without seagrass, fish populations decline. Without mangroves, coastlines erode. It’s all connected. One thing that stuck with me—locals were frustrated. They know the mangroves and seagrass are important, but they’ve been fighting a losing battle against nipa palm and pollution for years. The challenge now is turning knowledge into action, and action into lasting change. This project isn’t just about planting trees—it’s about fighting for the right trees, restoring seagrass, and tackling the waste crisis along the shorelines. It’s about making sure these ecosystems have space to grow, recover, and sustain the people who rely on them.

Building The Future: How new standards are shaping the built environment in 2025 Stricter carbon regulations, rising emissions costs, and mandatory ESG reporting—2025 is set to transform how buildings are designed, constructed, and operated. With new standards like the RICS Whole Life Carbon Assessment and the Future Homes Standard, sustainability is no longer optional—it’s essential for compliance, cost control, and investment appeal. What do these changes mean for developers, investors, and businesses? Get the full breakdown of what’s coming and how to stay ahead. https://lnkd.in/e5yKY2_6
