It was a privilege to host David Cohen from Alzheimer's Society today. Our team gathered to learn more about this incredible cause and how we can support them as our Charity of the Year. We discussed how the built environment and surroundings affect people with dementia, as well as the underlying causes of this devastating disease. Environmental factors such as access to greenery, water, and clean air can directly impact brain function. Those with limited access to these beneficial environments are 20-50% more likely to develop Alzheimer’s. Key takeaways: 🔵 Dementia is the leading cause of death in the UK, affecting 1 in 3 people. 🔵40% of cases are diagnosed, leaving 60% undiagnosed. 🔵Memory loss is not a normal part of ageing. 🔵Alzheimer’s Society provides essential services, outreach, and advocacy for everyone affected. 🔵A person’s quality of life is directly linked to their ability to navigate their home. Following our session, we’re thrilled to announce the launch of Greengage’s JustGiving page in support of Alzheimer's Society. Behind the scenes, we’re busy planning an exciting calendar of events for the year, and we invite you to join us in this meaningful journey. How you can help: 💙 Visit our JustGiving page:https://lnkd.in/eXidHNJU 📱 Scan the QR Code to donate directly. 💌 Share with your network to inspire others to get involved. Every penny raised goes directly to Alzheimer's Society’s life-changing research, care, and support services. Thank you for standing with us in support of this vital cause. Together, we can make a real difference in the fight against Alzheimer’s. 💙 #AlzheimersSociety #CharityOfTheYear #SupportTheCause #TogetherWeCan

It was great to support the team on this project. Urban Greening to enhance #biodiversity, improve #climateresilience, and reintegrate the building into use. Our approach maximised Biodiversity Net Gain (#BNG) on a constrained site, incorporating nature, a green roof, Sustainable Drainage Systems (#SuDS), and a mix of wildflowers to support pollinators.
A landmark of social history, Driscoll House on New Kent Road is set for a new chapter. With planning and listed building consent secured, Studio Moren’s scheme—developed on behalf of our clients, Rest Up—will deliver the extension and restoration of this Grade II listed building, ensuring its continued use for years to come. Built between 1911-1913, the lodging house was London’s first to provide accommodation exclusively for single working women. Many of the original communal spaces remain and will be reimagined to ensure its longevity. This scheme will deliver numerous building upgrades and restoration initiatives, securing its long-term, viable use as an important part of Southwark’s architectural heritage.
