Ignoring shares and the occasional blog, this may well be my first ever "post" on LinkedIn, which I hope speaks volumes about how important raising money for the charity I discuss below is to me, and to all those of who have witnessed the incredible work it does.
I lost a very close friend recently, after his 18 month battle with cancer. I won’t go into too many details, but Dan faced numerous setbacks and challenges with his treatment throughout his time fighting cancer, and the prospects of how he would have eventually died at home were truly awful.
Thankfully, Dan was able to go into a local hospice run by the St Wilfrid’s to see out his final few days. Doing so enabled him to pass away pain free, in dignity, and with the kind of support we would all wish those we love to receive at their end.
50% of us will experience cancer at some point in our lives and, though treatment has made incredible strides, the sad reality is that cancer still claims far too many lives. Every year nearly 25% of deaths in the UK are caused by cancer.
The care St Wilfrid’s Hospice provided to Dan was nothing short of exceptional. Before Dan went in the idea of a 'hospice', and what it implied, was daunting, but words can't describe the incredible help St Wilfrid’s provided and what it meant for Dan and his family as they faced his passing.
A small group of friends are undertaking a trek in the Sahara desert next year in his memory, and to raise funds to support the exceptional work St Wilfrid’s does. Details about St Wilfrid’s can be found here: (stwh.co.uk)
We’d love to raise as much money as possible, and if you would be willing to donate, share the details, or even join the trek, please see the link below:
