The post below is a really good read if you are a surveyor. 'Old school surveying' reminds me of that saying, selling old rope. Commercial Drones are disrupting the surveying landscape positively, and I can imagine that the very same push-back occurred among surveyors when the Total Stations replaced the tape measure, and the plumb bob. Commercial Drones do not replace Total Stations or the need for surveyors to be on-site, laying out and other methods of surveying are best performed with feet on the ground using specialised equipment and techniques, however, drones fit in as a complimentary piece of equipment that increase efficiency and productivity, they offer large-scale reliable data sets collected in short spans of time, which produces cost savings and profit margin increases. If you are a surveyor and you are not using drones yet, or are using the CAA classified toy drones (it isn't me calling them toys, its the Civic Aviation Authority!), come talk to us about commercial drones and their capabilities. All it takes is your competitors to adopt the technology to give them that edge, especially now that customers are becoming aware of the efficiencies and cost-savings commercial drones can offer. Those don't don't begin to adopt will have to do so late-game, don't ignore the new tools.

Today ElevatedVision is carrying out a stress test with Nira, using an excessively high polygon-count 3D draft Model (125 million polygons) to see how the platform performs, and boy does it handle well, very impressed with Nira's engine, their pricing and feature-set. If only it was as easy as putting in tens of miles of automated drone flight and several thousand overlapping photographs. When dealing with large scale modelling its a whole kettle of fish, compared to mapping a building or several! This isn't the final product, it looks like it hit every branch on the way down the ugly tree, but we just thought it'd be cool to share with our followers. We'll be removing it within the week and the final model will go live soon after, to be announced in tandem with our customer Castle Combe Circuit. Enjoy! First ... Last year we mapped the Karting at Haynes (also known as South West Karting) go karting track. A small venue, with a very fiddly tiny technical track, built around a few hundredth of a second differences and wide enough to overtake on the straights. Great team, had a go on the track myself with the lap record holder and was a few hundredths of a second off his pace, had a fantastic time mapping and hanging out, recommended for a day trip with the family, especially the younglings. https://lnkd.in/e4-qskg6 The models can be put online, placed on a website for interactive viewing, used to produce fly over videos and more. Axe Cliff Golf Course - A Links course in Seaton, Devon, on the Jurassic Coast. Amazing views of the coast, and a very nice course to play on. They are open nearly all year round as they have natural drainage, which is revealed in the photo below. Our biggest project to date, the famous Castle Combe Circuit, we really enjoyed working with a great team on such a famous track, mapping the entire site, the racing track itself in ultra-high resolution, along with the go karting track, rally track, skid pan and the building complexes. Several flights across multiple days needed to get everything in, and it turned out to be the most ambitious bit of scheduling we've accommodated by far! With windows of opportunity available during the track lunch hour, and on a few track maintenance days. The key deliverables aimed to tease out the tracks elevation using photogrammetry, as well as producing a beautiful model of the site and track for marketing purposes. Our next trip will be with an L2 Lidar camera slung under the drone, so as to capture the track in incredible detail. We should start seeing some of these products appearing in the Castle Combe Teams marketing over the course of this year.
