October is #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth and sadly, we all know someone touched by Breast Cancer; it's the most common type of cancer in the UK, affecting 1 in 7 women and around 400 men each year and it can affect people at any age. Regular checking and early detection can be lifesaving. At Elior UK we want to help play our part in raising awareness and sharing support, particularly the terrific resources available through Breast Cancer Charity CoppaFeel! These include guidance, support and resources like the one we've included in this post below relating to the importance of checking your chest and how you can sign up for free text reminders. It could save your life. CoppaFeel are raising awareness to help ensure all breast cancers are diagnosed early and correctly by encouraging checking breasts and pecs regularly from a young age, educating on the signs and symptoms of breast cancer, and empowering anyone to seek advice from a doctor if symptoms persist. We were thrilled to welcome Elior India Chefs Antony Anandakumar and Shivaraja Horabilu to London this week as part of our Chef Exchange Programme, where they’ve been working with our teams to introduce Zest & Zeera, a vibrant new concept celebrating India’s culinary diversity with every bite. Their signature dishes include moringa quinoa kichadi, tandoori spiced broccoli and coastal malabar prawn curry and the feedback from our clients has already been off the scale! The innovative Chef Exchange Programme will also see our 2025 Elior UK Culinary Competition winner head to India next year where they’ll introduce their winning concept. 📣 US Government Backs Water Unite Impact to Fund the Water Sector’s Missing Middle in Emerging Markets Water Unite is pleased to announce a US$7.5 million investment from the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) in Water Unite Impact (WUI). Currently, 771 million people do not have access to clean water, and 1.7 billion do not have adequate sanitation facilities. Climate change is expected to cause 52% of the world's population to live in water-stressed areas by 2050. WUI, a strategic partnership between FCA-regulated impact investment manager Wellers Impact and global non-profit Water Unite, is committed to providing innovative companies with the capital, expertise, and networks they require for significant growth. The DFC funding will help WUI accelerate its mission of driving meaningful change in the sector and help address the significant funding gap in the water sector, closing the critical "missing middle". 2025 promises to be an extra special year for Elior UK as we mark the 20th year of our annual Awards for Excellence and take the opportunity to celebrate the contribution of our highest performing colleagues and sites. This is Gill Heath, Divisional Director in our Care and Retirement Living sector, picking up the Special Recognition trophy at our 2024 awards and she's a terrific example of what we look for in this category. Throughout her long career within Elior, Gill has shown inspiring leadership, tenacity and creativity, always with a focus and emphasis on her teams. We're thrilled to share details of a joint initiative between our Taylor Shaw Ltd division and The GORSE Academies Trust. The initiative is championed by students across the trust who are part of #GreenGorse, a group of students who are passionate about making positive change - improving their environment, protecting their community, reducing their carbon footprint, and fighting climate change. The group will agree on several initiatives they want to focus on, based around 4 pillars. 🌟 Thriving Communities 🌟 Circular model 🌟 Sustainable Ingredients 🌟 Health Choices. We're thrilled to welcome Chris Harcombe to Elior, following his recent appointment as our Site Director at Scottish Gas, Murrayfield. Chris has 20 years’ experience across the UK airport sector including roles at Heathrow, Liverpool, Doncaster Sheffield, Teesside, and most recently as Managing Director at Doncaster Sheffield Airport. He brings 10 years’ experience in senior exec and non-exec leadership positions with operational, commercial, financial and strategic responsibilities. In his new role at Scottish Gas, Murrayfield. Chris will be responsible for leading operational delivery, growing commercial activity and developing the guest experience for all match day and non-match day activities. Chris told us, “I’m excited to be joining the team at Scottish Gas Murrayfield and looking forward to working with the talented teams at Scottish Rugby and Elior to deliver world class experiences for all visitors to this iconic venue”.
