If Jonathan Brearley was a football manager, he'd have shuffled off into retirement years ago, because he lost the dressing room shortly after he walked into it. As a regulator, Ofgem is an embarrassment and their staff don't understand suppliers, DNOs, TPIs or customers. The widespread failings have been evident for decades, however instead of owning it and looking to change and improve, they dig themselves an ever deeper hole, whilst also trying to throw others under the bus for their own failings. This time it's brokers and TPIs, and what was supposed to be the highlighting of unexplained high standing charges to small businesses, with the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) commenting on it in the media overnight, suddenly turned into defamatory sweeping statement that accuses brokers of ripping off customers, as seen in today's Standard, Daily Mirror, The Independent. https://lnkd.in/dR585x3Y The truth is, we don't control the standing charge that the business customer pays, the suppliers do. It's the suppliers that create price books and bespoke offers, not TPIs. Ofgem why did you target brokers with your comments which are absolutely defamatory? There are circa 2000 brokers and TPIs and the majority will have been protecting the interests of customers, longer than the average member of staff has been employed by Ofgem. We've informed you previously that TPIs are the key to unlocking the potential to operate a competitive market that can be successful and Ofgem need to listen to us. Established brokers and TPIs know more than you do and are better in our roles than your staff are in theirs. Today's comments are unacceptable and on behalf of all reputable brokers and TPI's we request that Ofgem retract that statement and offer an apology. It's inadvisable to make an enemy of those seeking to solve the problems that you have created, but presently you appear intent on doing so. If you are a broker or TPI that sees this post, share the hell out of it with your contacts and customers because this affects you and we need to hold this sub-standard Government controlled body to account.
