Their customer Lujeri Estates was able to deploy first-mile payments to their tea farms after verification of emissions reductions in their supply chain - a dream before Epoch! During Climate Week 2024, we brought together sustainability leaders across industries with our partners Epoch, ecoinvent, and Climate TRACE to discuss strategies for next-gen Scope 3 emissions management. We started with a round of technology spotlights, highlighting AI-powered approaches that allow for the verifiable, accurate, and scalable measurement of Scope 3 emissions, and closed with design sessions and collaborative discussion focused on what's critical to enable the public and private sectors to pursue net zero goals. Excited to announce that I’m joining Epoch as an advisor! Agriculture and forestry play a major role in global warming. Improving agriculture practices corresponds to 5% of the global emissions reduction potential, while achieving net-zero deforestation accounts for another 10%. Many in the supply chain—corporations, suppliers, farmers, and smallholders— want to do the right thing and reduce their impact through carbon sequestration, afforestation/reforestation, and other sustainable practices. The challenge is aligning and channeling financial incentives across product specific value chains. That’s where Epoch comes in. Using low cost, globally scalable environmental monitoring by bespoke AI models, Epoch empowers agriculture and forestry producers with data they need to monetize improvements in environmental metrics of their supply bases of commodities like tea, coffee, timber, rubber, and palm oil. For buyers, Epoch provides supply chain data for compliance (#EUDR, #CSRD, #CSDDD), reporting (#Scope3 emissions), and management of carbon reduction programs. Specifically this includes deforestation compliance, biomass monitoring, biodiversity assessments, water yield, soil carbon, all while minimizing data needs from suppliers. With an API-first approach, Epoch integrates with ERPs, supply chain traceability, custom brokerage, and operational data management platforms. We are excited to complement Cool Farm Alliance's capabilities with a host of MRV systems to: 1 - Reduce the required input data by over 90% through auto-detection of practices and leveraging global datasets for set "defaults", 2 - Add empirical biomass data to carbon assessments to create a comprehensive and more accurate carbon footprint and compliance assessments (e.g. EUDR, CSRD, CSDDD) for ag and forestry supply chains, and, 3 - Most importantly, allow companies in ag and forestry supply chains to share and request environmental data from their supply chain partners taking into account the complexities of product flows and their associated allocations without producers having to share any sensitive data like their farm locations, production volumes or practices This opens up access to Cool Farm capabilities at a massive scale (think tens of millions of plots, including smallholders) even in places with patchy data (like the Global South). We are making environmental assessment as easy as "pressing a button" so that companies can focus on action rather than measurement.
