📢 Are the rights of girls and young women being achieved? This #InternationalDayoftheGirlChild, we want to highlight the unique challenges facing girls and young women. To truly do this though, we need age-disaggregated data! The unique needs and challenges faced by girls are often rendered invisible and overlooked due to a lack of age-disaggregated data particularly in areas such as care work where girls often carry out most of the household chores, or health systems where services for girls can be rare. Girls' have a vision for the future, and it is our duty to empower them in shaping the norms, policies and programmes that affect their daily lives and the realisation of their rights. The evidence is clear - gender equality is foundational to a secure and sustainable, peaceful and prosperous future. But is it being prioritised? Are we on track to achieve gender equality by 2030? According to a new piece by Australia’s Ambassador for Gender Equality Stephanie Copus Campbell and Alison Holder from Equal Measures 2030, the answer is no—and the clock is ticking! ⏰ Despite global commitments, no country is set to meet this goal, and at current rates, gender equality won't be achieved until the next century! This is troubling, as gender equality is crucial for tackling major global challenges like climate change, poverty, and conflict. But there’s hope! From grassroots movements to global forums, progress is happening. We need collective action now more than ever. 🙌✨ Dive into the blog to learn why gender equality is key to a peaceful, sustainable, and prosperous future for all, and what steps we can take today. https://lnkd.in/edGY_xVv

📊 Disaggregating data is crucial to building a #GenderEqualFuture! ✨ In Canada, disaggregating data by Indigenous identity group revealed that Indigenous women face significantly higher rates of gender-based violence compared to non-Indigenous women. Whilst this insight was not surprising, the data was crucial for advocates to raise awareness of the issue and demand accountability from leaders. A lack of data coverage and insufficient disaggregation of data holds back effective policy and makes it easier for certain groups to be overlooked or ignored, sometimes with deadly consequences. We must close data gaps and further disaggregate our data to tackle gender inequalities for all and ensure we #LeaveNooneBehind. To explore this data more or check out other important examples where disaggregated national data is empowering advocates, head to our SDG Gender Index https://lnkd.in/er8pwucZ

As young feminists, we stand on the shoulders of giants. To the women who paved the way for us, we are grateful. You’ve fought for many of the rights we enjoy today, and yet, here we are, decades later, still demanding the same basic rights. The sad reality is that the battles you waged are still ours to fight. The patriarchy may have made tiny concessions, but the fact remains: the system still thrives on inequality, and progress has been far too slow. This is where intergenerational dialogue becomes more important than ever. We don’t just need to hear your stories of resilience, we need your wisdom, your strategies, and your insights. You’ve paved the way, and now it’s up to us to continue the journey. We can create the change that the world so desperately needs. It's not just about legacy. It’s about collaboration. As young feminists, we bring energy and innovation to the table, and you bring experience. Together, we’re unstoppable. But we also need to talk about the spaces we operate in. We’re done with high-level events filled with empty promises. We don’t need prestige, influencers, or celebrities speaking on our behalf in carefully curated panels where the real issues are diluted for the sake of political convenience. That’s not the revolution we’re fighting for. The real power lies at the grassroots level, on the margins of the United Nations, in the spaces where communities gather, where our movements are fueled by lived experiences. This is where the work gets done. We need spaces where activists, especially from the Global Majority, can speak without fear of being tokenized or sidelined. Spaces where we connect with each other, organize, and strategize on our own terms. We need safe spaces that are ours. We need people power. That's what the Feminist Futures Festival was all about The Accelerator for Gender Based Violence Prevention, Coalition of Feminists for Social Change (COFEM) Equal Measures 2030 UN Women Women's Major Group We refuse to sit at tables that don’t center the voices of those most affected by injustice. We don’t need corporate-sponsored summits or red-carpet events to validate our work. Our power comes from the ground up, from being in direct touch with our communities, from knowing what’s happening on the frontlines of the climate crisis, gender apartheid, genocide, war and countless other issues. The revolution won’t be televised, but it will be organized. It’s happening in the streets, in the small rooms where we meet, in the stories we share, and in the collective action we take. Intergenerationally & intersectionally, we will rise. Let’s keep fighting. For us. For you. For all of us. Power to the people, not prestige.

It was a pleasure to write this piece together with Stephanie Copus Campbell AM GAICD. In a world that feels far away from the vision of a #GenderEqualFuture, it is so encouraging to collaborate with Gender Equality Ambassadors like Stephanie who are out there pushing against the push-back every single day. #2024SDGGenderIndex

The future of global gender justice is at stake. Equal Measures 2030's new SDG index reveals that a girl born today will have to wait until her 97th birthday to live in an equal society. 💡 Today, nearly 40% of countries are stagnating or regressing on gender equality, putting hard-won gains in women's and girls' rights at risk due to rising anti-feminist rhetoric, political polarization, increasing economic instability, and climate change.   True equality will only exist when women and girls have full access to their rights—from equal pay and land ownership to sexual and reproductive rights, freedom from violence, access to education, and maternal health rights.     ➜ https://lnkd.in/daH3Z8gb
