Today is World Mental Health Day and at EQ, we’ve marked the day by encouraging colleagues to spend some time away from their desks to play some games together. This afternoon colleagues joined a session by mental health campaigner Natasha Devon MBE for a webinar on practical strategies to help a colleague struggling with their mental health. This year’s theme is workplace mental health, and at EQ we understand Mental Health Matters every day, that’s why our well-being network is focused on events throughout the year including our coffee breaks and Mental Health First Aiders around our business. As Andrew Ninian, Director Stewardship, Risk and Tax, Investment Association hinted at our EQ Conference last week during the panel session, "Rallying shareholder support in preparation for shareholder meetings and exec remuneration", The Investment Association (IA) has published its highly anticipated update of ‘Principles of Remuneration’ which outlines IA member views on the commonly accepted approach to executive pay for the majority of companies. OVERARCHING REMUNERATION POLICY PRINCIPLES: 1. Promote long-term value creation through transparent alignment with the board’s agreed corporate strategy. 2. Support individual and corporate performance, encourage the sustainable long-term financial health of the business and promote sound risk management for the benefit of material stakeholders. 3. Seek to deliver remuneration levels which are clearly linked to company performance. These overarching principles can best be met by remuneration committees engaging with shareholders and demonstrating alignment between remuneration and value creation and protection. We acknowledge that there is no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to levels of remuneration. Remuneration committees need to engage proactively and constructively with shareholders and entire boards need to be appropriately involved in remunerations decisions.  Whilst we further digest the report and highlight the key parts, you can be assured that we have our finger on the pulse and we look forward to sharing further details from our EQ Conference session, with Andrew Ninian - sign up to our newsletter to be the first to hear!
