70th Anniversary Year
About us
Exmoor was first designated as a National Park in 1954. Since then, the co-ordination of work to achieve in the area has been undertaken by local government and since 1997 by a free standing Exmoor National Park Authority. Our two main objectives (National Park purposes) are: - "To conserve and enhance the natural beauty, wildlife and cultural heritage of the National Park" - "To promote opportunities for the understanding and enjoyment of the special qualities of the National Park by the public" Around 80 staff work in the 267 square miles of Exmoor National Park Authority, providing a range of services to the (c.11,000) residents and nearly 2 million annual visitors, supported by a highly knowledgeable ‘crew’ of volunteers. Stunning landscapes, dark skies, and tranquility - glimpse wild Red Deer (largest mammal in the UK) or the native Exmoor Pony who roam freely over the moor. A warm rural welcome awaits you in Exmoor National Park.

Did you know our team manage two Exmoor pony herds? Exmoor Ponies aren't just iconic, they're a vital part of the landscape, helping with conservation grazing. Thanks to the work of Exmoor pony enthusiasts around the country, the Exmoor pony breed has gained popularity and there's a growing market for moorland bred youngstock. Moorland farmers, herd owners and Exmoor pony breeders have ensured that important bloodlines have been conserved and new areas populated with Exmoor pony herds #exmoor70

We are really excited to be a part of this and look forward to some great projects, bringing young people closer to nature, happening on #exmoor
Generation Green 2 is a £4.5m project to help young people forge closer connections with nature. The National Landscapes Association is thrilled to be one of the Access Unlimited partners delivering the programme. Eight National Landscapes are involved, hosting magical, fun experiences for young people - from stargazing to wild cooking; campfire tales to night time rambles. By next spring 41,500 young people who would not otherwise have the chance to enjoy natural spaces will have enjoyed taking part in the programme. We'll be sharing stories from the sessions in the coming months. It's great that The South West Coast Path has made 'happiest walk' and now, following a partnership project improving six Exmoor stretches this year, the coastal views and walking experience are even better!
🎉 The South West Coast Path has been named the world's 'happiest walk'! 😊 We certainly know how happy we feel when we set foot on the trail, and we are thrilled to learn that the #SWCP has been rated at 99.30 on a happiness score, topping the chart of the world's Top 20 happy walks. We often talk about the health-giving happiness that the South West Coast Path brings to those who walk it, whether a few steps a day or the entire 630 miles. A huge shout out to everyone who works with us, ensuring that the #SWCP is cared for and protected so it can continue to bring smiles to all who are lucky to experience its happiness-inducing qualities. #swcp #happywalk #worldsgreattrails #nationaltrail #health #happiness https://lnkd.in/gnFnFss3
