Giving young people a great start to their working lives.

About us

We tackle barriers to employment faced by young people from low-income backgrounds, supporting them to unlock their potential and succeed in the workplace. We do this by: - delivering employability programmes - supporting employers to drive social mobility - and generating insights to help influence systemic change. So that the opportunity to succeed is available to all young people, employers can access fantastic, diverse talent, and society benefits from driving growth and creating a lasting impact for future generations. We have a bold ambition to enable the 2 million young people eligible for free school meals to have an employment and earnings potential that is equitable to other young people in the UK. The EY Foundation is an independent UK charity registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales.

  • "We've never had anything handed to us on a plate." Growing up in a low-income household can mean a young person has fewer opportunities to get ahead and prepare for the world of work. But these young people are entrepreneurial, intelligent, resilient, creative... Can your business afford to miss out on what they bring? We connect young people and employers to unlock potential and provide access to invaluable talent. 👉 Access their skills. Watch the full film. Share the campaign. https://lnkd.in/edTeR4AR

  • How are we addressing skills gaps in the face of a changing labour market? Alongside our core programmes, we also run AI literacy and emotional intelligence workshops to develop human-centric skills like self-awareness and self-regulation. These skills are foundational for developing ‘Essential Employment Skills’ (EES). Why is this important? As part of National Foundation for Educational Research (NFER)’s Skills Imperative 2035, six EES are projected to be in high demand in the future of work:  👉 Communication  👉 Collaboration  👉 Problem-solving  👉 Organising, planning and prioritising work  👉 Creative thinking  👉 Information literacy (how you gather, process and use information) Their latest report* highlights the connection between development of socio-emotional and cognitive skills and EES development. It found that targeted support is necessary for those from low-income backgrounds, to ensure that no one is left behind. A good base of essential employment skills can be vital for young people entering the workforce, and is particularly important given a lack of representation of these skills in the current labour market. #YouthEmployment #SkillsDevelopment

  • 📢 Calling all young people - play a part in shaping your future!    Share your thoughts on what services, facilities and opportunities you want to see in the UK.      The Government is creating a new ten-year National Youth Strategy with the aim of tackling the challenges young people and their communities face across the UK, so that all young people can thrive.     Young people aged 10 to 21, or up to 25 years old for those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), are invited to contribute their views on what they need to benefit their lives and futures.    👉 Don't miss out on the chance to have your voice heard!      📝 Complete the survey here by 16 April: https://lnkd.in/eEQK7cHi   #WhatsYourOrder #YouthVoice #DeliverYou

  • ✨ Happy International Women’s Day!   🙌 Today, we’re spotlighting Nicola Henry. She started her epic running challenge this January to complete...    🏃🏻♀️➡️ 12 races  📆 in 12 months  ✈️ across 12 countries    ...to fundraise for the Foundation.     As well as this being a very personal challenge since taking up running as part of her recent health and fitness journey, social mobility is also a cause that sits very close to Nicola’s heart, and she can think of nothing better than to couple this running challenge with raising awareness of our work these past 10 years.     A huge thank you to all the women, including Nicola, who have fundraised, volunteered and supported our work so more free-school-meal-eligible young people are able to start and thrive in their careers.   👇 Link below to support and follow Nicola’s journey over 2025!     #IWD2025

  • ❔How do you pick your career? There are tonnes of jobs and sectors that young people can thrive in, but it can be overwhelming to decide which to pursue. We’ve talked to people working in a whole range of sectors to get their insights into the advice, skills and misconceptions surrounding their roles – with more overlap than you’d think!  🎙️Have a sneak peek into some of our conversations below and search ‘Careers Unlocked’ on your podcast app for full episodes covering tech, professional services, entrepreneurship, banking and the charity sector.    #NCW2025 #YouthEmployment #CareersUnlocked

  • 🚨 Last week, Office for National Statistics data revealed that 987,000 young people in the UK are NEET (not in education, employment or training), that’s almost 1 million of young people left behind. The King's Trust TK Maxx Youth Index reported that NEET young people identified CV writing and interview skills, confidence building and work experience opportunities as the support most needed for them to get into work. It’s important to recognise the invaluable part that employability skills training and work experience can play in helping young people to fulfil their ambitions. At EY Foundation we’re looking to redefine the model of work experience and are continuously enhancing our programmes to better prepare young people for the workplace. 92% of our alumni surveyed believe that their participation in the EY Foundation’s programme improved their career prospects. 🤝 We can’t let NEET young people numbers continue to increase - let’s work together to give them the support they need.  #NCW2025 #YouthEmployment #EmployabilitySkills

  • 🎓 Congratulations to all the young people who took part in our programmes this February! Yesterday, we held graduations for 5 programmes across the North, South and Midlands to celebrate the achievements of over 100 young people. 👏 We’ve watched their confidence and skills grow over the past 2 weeks as they’ve engaged in employability skills workshops and completed business experience placements across the charity, technology and professional services sectors. A huge thank you to our young people for taking part, and to our volunteers and employers for supporting young people from low-income backgrounds to take their first steps into the world of work! 👀 We look forward to seeing what our graduates get up to next with the support of their mentors… #Graduation #YouthEmployment #SocialMobility
