“The impact of climate change on economies and businesses tends to be underpriced by markets, despite the fact that there has been a notable rise in both insured and uninsured losses from natural disasters over recent decades” We have recently partnered with IFI Global to produce a commentary which emphasizes the growing importance of integrating climate risk into banking, detailing the necessity for accurate data and comprehensive strategies to address both physical and transition risks. It’s officially live 🎉 Following the launch of their Intelligent Risk Platform, Moody's RMS has now released its Open Modeling Engine (OME) - which enables customers to operate external modeling engines from their Nasdaq environment on the platform. We’re proud to have supported the platform’s proof of concept with our existing portfolio of models, and will be adding our highly anticipated Global Flood Cat model to the platform later this year, giving OME users the ability to develop a better view of flood risk more easily. Catastrophic events often are not driven by one process. Extreme coastal floods can coincide with strong winds, or damage from extreme rainfall can be amplified when following a wildfire. However, typical catastrophe models rarely look at the probability and impact of multi-peril compound events. Join us for our next CPD accredited webinar on ‘Exploring the impact of compound events’. https://hubs.ly/Q02Hphwk0 Our experts will explore: 🌊 What are compound events? 💨 To what extent are events like flooding, drought and wind connected? 🌀 What drives compound events? ⛈️ How model vendors can work together to provide combined views of risk? This webinar is part of Fathom’s 3-part CPD accredited webinar series, hosted with CIWEM (The Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management). It’s official 🎉 ! Following the successful integration of our US Flood Map into the platform earlier this year, even more of our award-winning hazard data is now available in Swiss Re’s risk assessment platform, CatNet®. Platform users can now utilize Fathom’s Global, UK and Japan Flood Maps to build a better understanding of flood risk, to help them manage its devastating impact. Learn more about this fantastic news and the hazard data available: https://lnkd.in/exRXK3st Swiss Re Reinsurance Solutions #floodrisk #catnet
📢 We have some great news to share: Fathom's advanced Global, UK, and Japan Flood Maps are now available within the CatNet® #risk assessment platform. This follows the successful integration of the US Flood Map earlier this year, and marks a substantial step forward in understanding and managing #flood risks, which are intensifying globally. In a lively exchange, Ali Shahkarami, our Global Head of P&C Solutions, and Andrew Smith, COO of Fathom, emphasize how important it is for insurers today to use granular data, advanced modelling, and progressive risk knowledge to build a 360-degree view of their portfolio and better understand their exposure to flood risk: https://ow.ly/5bWg50SHt2n

Today, on Climate Emergency Day, the climate clock in Times Square ticked below five years for the first time ⏰. The message is clear: We now have less than five years to transition to a green economy. At Fathom, we understand that a warmer world means a wetter world. For every degree increase in temperature, we face more severe and frequent physical events. To mitigate this risk, businesses worldwide must adapt and measure their impact, helping to build social and economic resilience. Tools are available to help. Banks are increasingly recognizing the importance of integrating climate risk into their investment processes. Yet, the lack of reliable data hinders effective risk assessment of both physical and transition risks. Despite underestimation, addressing these risks is crucial to avoid loan losses. In this commentary, produced in collaboration with IFI Global, we explore why it is more important than ever to incorporate climate risk and where banks can start in their measurement. Coastal regions face increasing threats from rising sea levels and extreme weather events, highlighting the urgent need for accurate assessments of coastal flood risk. A newly published research paper led by Coastal Data Scientist Tom Collings provides a novel approach to estimating global extreme sea level exceedence probabilities using a regional frequency analysis approach. Combining observed and hindcast data, the team produced a high-resolution dataset along the entire global coastline (except Antarctica). Entitled 'Global application of a regional frequency analysis to extreme sea levels', this study is a fantastic resource for quantifying the global coastal flood risk, particularly for regions with limited observational data. A huge well done to authors Tom Collings, Niall Quinn, Ivan Haigh, Joshua Green, Izzy Probyn, Hamish Wilkinson, Sanne Muis, William Sweet and Professor Paul Bates CBE FRS on the publication of your paper in European Geosciences Union (EGU) Natural Hazards and Earth System Sciences https://lnkd.in/e9XBV5xD #EGU #SeaLevel #coastalflood #floodrisk
