The Omnibus dominated discussions at last week’s Climate Risk Reporting, of course it did. Sustainability, ISSB and CSRD leads gained the first insights on how their peers are proceeding, as the dust settles, outlined below. Thank you to everyone who joined us. Approaching 400 attendees at Europe’s biggest event of its kind shows user and preparer interest continues to grow. https://lnkd.in/eJpXHt-W Re the Omnibus: The key phrase was ‘value creation’. CSRD preparers are determined to maintain their existing reporting infrastructure, often voluntarily if newly out of scope. My sideline conversations showed many CSRD leads aren't rowing back. Who knows how quickly the global regulatory mood will swing back to pro-sustainability initiatives. These problems aren’t going away. We don’t know the political mood in the US in four years’ time, or less. Preparers don’t want to be caught out if reporting scope expands again. Best practice for previous reporting frameworks was a few years voluntary ‘dry runs’ in advance. The building blocks for CSRD are being repurposed for other reporting and resilience initiatives. Data supports ISSB reporting, transition planning and beyond. Cornelia Frentz outlined how reporting continues to shape strategy. Robert Adamczyk's panel demonstrated reporting interoperability; Harold Pauwels expanded on the GRI’s continued work; Simon Rawson introduced the TISFD. Value chain insights remain a priority. Alison Bewick shared how Nestlé’s materiality assessments ensure the integrity of their partners. Investors require proof that climate risk factors are identified and mitigated; Ashim Paun's panel shared the extent. Boards need to understand this to increase internal funding. Work continues on Transition Planning. Richard Barker gave the ISSB’s annual keynote emphasising an achievable plan with sufficient ambition. Max Crawford and Andrew Probert of ERM explained the financial planning to underpin a solid plan. Martin Wayman's Transition Plan published the following day (https://lnkd.in/eeEBD97Y), Will Ennett CEnv MIEMA has shared his salient takeaways https://lnkd.in/edvuimeB. CSRD leads have enacted substantial business transformation prior to the regulation changing. Doubling down on value created will ensure internal influence remains strong. Phil Cliff's panel outlined how they are structuring their function internally. But above all was to desire to continue reporting despite the Omnibus. Not for just for value creation, shareholder value, investor demands or risk mitigation, but to “do the right thing”. This May users and preparers will benchmark their Transition Plans & Net Zero Pathways: https://lnkd.in/et58wM24. Complimentary attendance for users & preparers.
