Renewable Energy Power Generation
Accelerating the build out of the renewable infrastructure needed to reach net zero - and we're hiring!
About us
We're creating the renewable energy infrastructure and trading company of the future. Because if we are to avoid climate catastrophe, the energy sector needs to undergo significant, systemic change - and fast. We’re beginning with energy storage. Battery storage allows renewable energy to be stored for when it's needed, creating a more reliable, flexible and decarbonised national grid. And we're looking for great people to make this happen. If you're interested, get in touch at careers@field.energy and we can tell you more.

Good to see the issue of constraints and curtailment making it to PMQs. Transmission connected battery storage can help alleviate these constraints, and will be particularly useful while the extensive build out of the transmission network catches up. Field's planned projects in the north of Scotland could provide 3 GWh of battery storage capacity – enough to store over 7 hours of full production from Viking, which can then be discharged to the network at a more suitable time, saving constraint costs for consumers and improving the carbon footprint of our electricity system. Battery storage must be allowed to play a greater role in managing grid constraints and maintaining stability, as we work to achieve a clean power by 2030 and reduce our reliance on more expensive and polluting technologies, including gas power plants. This starts with accelerating the planning and grid reform processes to get more storage built, connected & up and running. Achieving energy security and bringing down energy costs for consumers go hand in hand when we deploy and use more grid-scale storage - alongside renewables and new network infrastructure.

Fantastic to get the Field Whitebirk project up and running with Envision Energy. A huge thank you to the teams on both sides who made this happen! Envision Energy's product and expertise helped them progress swiftly through a thorough, competitive tender process and we're pleased to be working with them on Field Whitebirk. When operational, the site will join our network of UK battery storage sites in balancing increasingly intermittent energy supplies across the grid to bolster energy security, bring down costs to consumers and decarbonise the power sector by 2030. https://rb.gy/mj0f0d #BESS #batterystorage #energysecurity #decarbonisation

Our Gerrards Cross site is now live! Field Gerrards Cross is capable of storing enough power to supply 44,688 homes for one hour and will now provide clean energy when and where it's needed the most. The launch of Gerrards Cross comes as electricity network operators face acute grid constraints across the nation, due to a lack of infrastructure capable of transporting electricity to meet growing consumer demand. Batteries can ease constraints and reduce reliance on carbon-intensive forms of electricity generation, such as gas, by charging up when the supply of renewables on the grid is high and discharging when the grid would otherwise have to pay to turn on more carbon-intensive generation like gas, for example, when demand from consumers is high. This can reduce the cost of energy, including constraints, covered by bill payers - all while creating a more reliable, flexible and greener energy system that provides greater energy security and helps countries across Europe move on from expensive fossil fuels.

We’ve launched in Spain! We’re excited to announce our entrance into the Spanish market, spearheaded by our General Manager Toni Martinez. Battery storage will play a crucial role as Spain rapidly deploys renewable energy to decarbonise its grid, driving progress towards the country’s 2030 clean power target. We’re continuing to grow our operations, with >4.5 GWh of projects currently in advanced stages of development across Europe, after having launched in Italy last year. Inadequate network capacity in the UK means renewable energy is being wasted – which not only adds to energy bills, but increases carbon emissions too. Between October 2021 and September 2022, National Grid ESO spent £2bn switching off renewables and turning on gas-fired generators to manage constraints on the transmission system. ESO forecasts that constraint costs will rise above £3 billion by 2030. We’ve done lots of work and analysis in this area and are pleased to be working with our peers Zenobē, Eku Energy and Kona Energy UK to propose joint solutions, specifically focused on enhancing intertrip services and using battery storage to expand network capacity. Find out more about what we’re proposing here: https://lnkd.in/ever2cvg

I had a great day speaking at the Renewable Energy Revenues Summit Series on Thursday, where we discussed EU market storage regulations and unpacked investor expectations for the next wave of battery storage opportunities. Thank you to Charles Lesser, Amanda Niklaus, Alan Smallwood, Lukas Pfeiffer and Paul Soskin for such an insightful discussion, and to Jo W. for organising the event! Feel free to drop myself or Field a message if you’d like to hear more about the future of energy storage and regulatory trends across Europe.

We need more reforms to the Capacity Market to make it fit for a low carbon future. While it increasingly relies on energy storage, derating factors are too low to reflect the real value that storage businesses, including Field, bring to the energy system. As National Grid ESO works with industry to reassess the derating factor methodology, we should explore ways to maximise use of limited-duration assets in the electricity system, including central dispatch during system stress events to enable the control room to make the most of the assets it has available. Thanks to Energy-Storage.news for sharing my views. Read more below https://lnkd.in/eJgGwbjg

Great to be part of Solar & Storage Live panel discussion on business models and revenue stacks with Eugene Sasin, Ted Cliffe , Mike Ryan, Fabrizio Fenu Fenu and Charlotte Johnson. Interesting discussion around how the UK market has evolved, and what paths other markets are taking to support the build out of storage e.g. more centralised procurement models (e.g. Italy, with MACSE) vs. more market-led models (e.g. Germany, UK), and the trades-offs involved (deployment speed vs. efficiency). Some of the team at Field will be attending the event for the rest of today and tomorrow - so please get in touch.
