  • Major milestone for new South West Fife high school!    Today, we celebrated a big step forward with a 'topping out' ceremony at the new South West Fife high school. Pupils joined councillors to mark the building reaching its highest point.    Fife Council is investing £88m into this new school in South West Fife, providing young people with the best place to learn and benefiting the wider community.    Built on the former Rosyth Fleet Grounds, the school will open in August 2026. For more information on the build and the naming of the new school go to https://lnkd.in/euj7kujy #OurSWFife The Scottish Government

    • Councillors, pupils, officers, partners and contractor laying cement plinth to mark reaching the highest point of the build.
    • Cllr Bryan Goodall, Cllr David Barratt (SWF Area Convener) and Cllr Cara Hilton (Education Spokesperson) laying the cement plinth to mark reaching the highest point in the building.
  • Enjoy the Journey! 🚴♀️ Walking, wheeling or cycling is a great way to get about for everyday journeys. People-powered transport, including walking, wheeling (such as wheelchairs, scooters, prams and buggies) and cycling, is not only good for your health and wellbeing but it’s great for the environment too! We want to make it easier for people to travel around safely and efficiently, from putting in improved walking and cycling routes across the Kingdom to working with schools and supporting cycle training with our Bikeability programmes. 👉 Visit our active travel page for information on getting started and safe routes around Fife: https://lnkd.in/ew22N2F2

  • More than 30 Fife primary schools are taking part in Sustrans’ Big Walk and Wheel 2025 competition.  The annual competition, taking place from 24 March – 4 April this year, inspires pupils to make active journeys to school, improve air quality in their neighbourhood, and discover how these changes benefit their world.  Good luck to our schools in this year's competition!

  • Power up your recycling! From 31 March we’re trialling a battery recycling collection across most of central Fife as part of scheduled waste collections. The 6-month trial will means that if you are on a 4-bin kerbside service (people with a brown bin) you can put batteries out on top of your green bin on your collection day. Simply place your used batteries in a plastic bag or small container that you would be recycling anyway, and we will collect the most common household batteries- D, C, AA, AAA, AAAA, 6v, 9v and button batteries. Please do not place batteries inside bins, as this can cause them to ignite during waste compaction. For more information and to check if you are in the trial area, please visit: https://lnkd.in/gFSn7avM

  • The council’s budget for 2025/26 was approved last week. As well as continuing to fund essential frontline services, a range of investments to improve services for local people were also agreed. Some of the highlights include more money to care for Fife’s ageing and most vulnerable people, a digital device for every P6-S6 pupil and extra cash to repair more roads. • Templehall Community Gym has received the keys to its new home – the former learning annex of the Argos Centre – at 146 Templehall Avenue in Kirkcaldy. The long-established gym has moved as part of our £15m plans to regenerate the area and build a brand-new state-of-the-art Community Hub. A huge thank you to BAM UK & Ireland and its supply chain who have refurbished the old building and created a modern space for the new gym. This is a great example of a community wealth building project. Where they could, BAM employed local companies and people to benefit the local economy and keep the money within the area. They also reused and recycled materials from other projects they’ve worked on for us as part of the gym refit, including the new Woodmill and St Columba’s high schools in Dunfermline.

    • Martin Cooper, Construction Director with BAM, Councillor Ian Cameron, Convener of the Kirkcaldy Area Committee, Councillor Linda Erskine, Fife Council’s Spokesperson for Communities and Leisure and Yvonne Courtnage, Templehall Gym Secretary.
    • Martin Cooper, Construction Director with BAM, Madison Smith, Trainee Social Sustainability Co-Ordinator with BAM Construction Ltd and members of the Templehall Community Gym.
