About us
Fire Safety Matters (FSM) is an independent publication aimed at the largest collection of fire safety-focused professionals in the UK. The title reaches more than 40,000 named individuals through traditional print as well as online and e-mail platforms. The magazine contains unrivalled coverage of news, prosecutions and the latest products, as well as carrying detailed features, comment and analysis from leading industry figures. Importantly, FSM also provides in-depth previews for all of the key industry events. In point of fact, FSM is the only publication that brings together a readership from across all fire risk management perils. Fire Safety Matters publishes an industry-focused Podcast on the magazine's website. We also send out a detailed eNews bulletin to an extensive database of subscribers every Tuesday. FSM is ABC-audited and, thanks to an arrangement with the Institute of Fire Safety Managers, our audience can gain CPD points by reading the magazine/website and viewing our Podcasts and webinars.

Following on from the customary election process, Phil Garrigan OBE KFSM (chief fire officer for the Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service) has been announced as the next chair of the National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC). Current chair Mark Hardingham will be standing down in March 2025 when his four-year term of office comes to an end. All serving UK chief fire officers – and those who had served as a chief fire officer within the last two years – were eligible to stand for the prestigious role. Three “very capable” candidates put themselves forward, with the voting taking place across all NFCC individual members during September. The outcome of the election process was duly confirmed by the NFCC’s Board of Trustees at the meeting held on Friday 4 October. Garrigan will take the reins from Mark Hardingham in April 2025. This month, FSi Promat is launching a reformulated PyroPro HPE fire stopping sealant designed to support healthier working practices in the construction industry. As part of a company-wide initiative to reduce chemicals that could pose a risk to health, the company has modified the formula of its PyroPro HPE fire stopping sealant to help protect contractors and installers. Critically, the fire performance of the sealant has been maintained such that the new formula can be used in the same applications as before. A key product in the FSi Promat range of fire stopping solutions, PyroPro HPE is a high-performance sealant that’s used to reinstate fire resistance for service penetrations. It’s approved for application around CPVC pipes (as typically witnessed in relation to sprinkler systems), plastic pipes, cables and non-combustible insulated pipes.
