Flood and Coastal Innovation Programmes reach the mid-way point. "In Northumberland, the FloodAI project is developing a flood warning system across six isolated rural catchments, using AI and new sensor technology. The project team aim to develop a low cost, more accurate flood warning solution for isolated, rural communities, that are not covered by existing services. The team are applying AI to their network of 43 smart hydrometric sensors and river gauges to gather the information they need to develop automated flood warnings by 2025."
"In the face of a changing climate, we need to help communities be more resilient to flooding and coastal change, so that when it does happen it causes much less harm to people, does much less damage, and ensures life can get back to normal much quicker." At the mid-point of our Flood and Coastal Innovation Programmes, our Director of Flood and Coastal Strategy and Adaptation Julie Foley reflects on its achievements so far and how it will inform flood and coastal risk management approaches in the future.
