Bright ideas to improve water resilience in small rural communities across Suffolk and Norfolk.
About us
Reclaim the Rain is one of 25 projects from the £200m Flood & Coastal Resilience Innovation Programme (#FCRIP), managed by the Environment Agency. #FCERMStrategy Reclaim the Rain is a project run by Norfolk and Suffolk County Councils to test new ways of reducing flooding in small rural locations. We’re called Reclaim the Rain because our goal isn’t just to reduce flooding. We also want to capture that excess water and put it to good use. We live in the driest part of the UK, so every drop that falls on it is precious.

Our fantastic Programme Team at the Environment Agency has published a report on the early successes and challenges in achieving flood and coastal resilience, adaptation and coastal transition as we pass the mid-point of the innovation programmes. Follow the link below to find a summary of findings to date. #FCERMStrategy #FCRIP
The £200 million Flood and Coastal Innovation Programmes are the largest investment in innovation that we, together with Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, have ever made. Now half-way through, we have drawn together the initial learnings, successes and challenges from the projects. It's #WaterReuseWeek Across East Anglia we know that water shortages are a real threat into the future. Unless usage behaviours and water supplies improve, there could be a deficit of over 200 million litres across the East every single day. That’s why we are supporting Water Reuse Week to encourage everyone to think about how they may be able to reduce their consumption and #reuse their wastewater. #ReclaimtheRain is aiming to reuse flood water to create more sustainable sources of water across #Norfolk and #Suffolk. #FCRIP #fcermstrategy

Norfolk's monitoring devices are now installed and up and running! This equipment, set up across Thompson, Watton and Woodton, is now live and collecting #data. The information gathered by these devices will not only generate a valuable #evidence base for us, but also creates a unique opportunity for each of our six communities to get involved, access real time data, and keep informed on what's happening in their surface water catchments. Big thanks to Hydro International and JBA Consulting for your work on this! #reclaimtherain #fcrip #fcermstrategy

Thank you RAIN Northants for sharing what we're up to in Boxford as part of #ReclaimtheRain! You can learn more about Reclaim the Rain and RAIN Northants' objectives, as well as the other brilliant 23 projects who are exploring a range of different approaches to water resilience across England as part of the Flood and Coastal Resilience Innovation Programme (FCRIP) here: https://lnkd.in/ekuH8znt
Breaking ground in Boxford! In partnership with J.S. Wright & Sons and landowner, Alan, we have planted our first set of willow trees as part of #ReclaimtheRain. These trees will form part of a wider initiative which will include NFM, flood attenuation, and a new fishery. Our Community Working Group were instrumental in identifying that this area could offer both #flood storage and a #waterresource. More to come in 2024!

#ReclaimtheRain have been out and about assisting with topography surveys in Thompson. This #data tells us more about the natural features and man-made characteristics in the area and will help us to plan how we can deliver sustainable water management features in Thompson. #FCRIP #fcermstrategy

Reclaim The Rain reposted this
This year I once again had the pleasure of attending and hosting a stand at Suffolk’s Youth Climate Conference. Great to see over 200 high school pupils attend, network with other stall holders and hear about all the brilliant environmental projects and work underway across the county. On top of this, I had the opportunity to speak to Chris Packham about all things water and Reclaim The Rain! Well done to Suffolk County Council’s Environment Team for organising such an inspirational and insightful event. #SuffolkYCC24 #ReclaimtheRain

Sian and Ruby have been busy supporting on a suite of ecology surveys in #Suffolk. Last week 100 dormouse tubes were laid along the eastern flow path of Boxford’s surface water catchment. This data will help to inform and ensure that appropriate mitigation measures are put in place to minimise any disturbance to #wildlife as the team transitions into design and delivery phases of #ReclaimtheRain. These investigations will form part of the #learning and methodology for testing new and #innovative ways of managing surface water more sustainably as part of the 'Flood and Coastal Resilience Innovation Programme' (#FCRIP). #fcermstrategy

Suffolk's monitoring devices are now installed and up and running! Across Boxford, Little Blakenham and Friston's surface water catchments, we've had rain gauges, peak level recorders, and continuous level and flow devices installed. The #data captured by these devices will help us to better understand how each catchment responds to rainfall events, while providing a valuable dataset pre- and post-delivery; enabling us to accurately evaluate our deliverables and their effectiveness in improving resilience to the impacts of #flooding and #drought. Big thanks to Hydro International and JBA Consulting for your support on this work. #reclaimtherain #suffolk #FCRIP #fcermstrategy
