  • This International Women’s Day we are celebrating our wonderful Consultant in Palliative Care, Dr Helen Pegrum. Helen started working as a Doctor at the Hospice 25 years whilst also becoming a mum to twins. Helen works all across Buckinghamshire, in the community, in hospitals and in the Hospice. She takes great pride in her educational role, having trained many doctors, several of whom have returned to work at the Hospice. Helen describes the role of the Hospice as ‘wrapping care around the patient’, she has consistently delivered this for her whole career. Last year, Helen won the Lifetime Contribution Award at the Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust (BHT) Awards. Liz Monaghan, Lead Nurse at the Hospice says “She is the best consultant I have ever worked with, she really is an inspirational leader”. #IWD2025 #InternationalWomensDay

  • Thanks to a grant of £45,100 from the Wolfson Foundation we have been able to purchase twelve rise and recliner chairs. These are being used by patients in our Inpatient Unit and Day Hospice. Tracey Batt IPU Ward Sister and Day Hospice Manager says, "Without the support of the Wolfson Foundation we would not have been able to purchase these wonderful new rise-recline chairs and we are so grateful to them for their generosity. "Not only have they added an extra level of comfort for our patients, but they also benefit our relatives and visitors, who can often spend many hours at the bedside of their loved ones."

  • It was wonderful to welcome Provincial Grand Charity Steward Mark Duncan, Captain Bill Holland and Volunteer Coordinator Ewan Gordon from The Buckinghamshire Freemasons to the Hospice yesterday. They saw our new cuddle beds, which are used in our Inpatient Unit. The Buckinghamshire Freemasons organised a 50-mile walk across Pilgrim’s Way in Summer 2023 to raise funds for the Hospice. Forty incredible walkers battled torrential rain and strong winds. Initially, they set out to fund one cuddle bed but through generous donations and the commitment of the walkers to their fundraising, they raised £31,000, enough to buy two beds. Mark, Bill and Ewan were warmly welcomed yesterday by our CEO Jo Turner and IPU Ward Sister Tracey Batt who showed them how they worked and talked about their impact. The beds arrived in December, and we have already seen the wonderful difference they make to our patients, their families and pets, offering a place to cuddle up as a family in their precious final days together. We couldn’t be more grateful to them for their support.

Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity - Seeking Business Support to Help Raise Funds for our Charity

Our amazing team with the support of over 100 local school children will be performing twice on Saturday 9th August to help raise funds for our wonderful Hospice. This is simply a brilliant landmark community event that delivers so much for the children involved, the supporting community and of course raise funds for such a vital service. If you would like to help by sponsoring the School of Rock at the Aylesbury Waterside Theatre, please get in touch with me. We have a few packages available to help promote your great support. Without the sponsorship from the business community we simply couldn't raise the funds required to benefit so many involved and our amazing Hospice. Thank you for considering FNHC 🙏

  • Simon explains why he has left us a gift in his will: “My sister-in-law Debbie passed away at the Hospice 10 years ago. She had worked there as a doctor in palliative care many years before that, so it seemed right that this is where she spent her final days. I could see it was a very caring place, with incredible support for Debbie and our family. “My father was cared for at home by hospice nurses and I was impressed by the compassion that the nurses showed to him as they made him comfortable in the home he had lived in for many years. “As well as having this connection to the Hospice and wanting to give something back, as an accountant I know that there are huge tax benefits to leaving a gift in a will. This is especially true if 10% or more of your net taxable estate is left to charity. I don’t think enough people know about this but it’s a very compelling reason to leave a legacy, especially if your family has been touched by hospice care.” https://lnkd.in/eJUqW2Ve
