We asked, you answered!   AI is big part of our day to day lives now, we'd guess that most of us can't go a day without using it in some form (even when we don't realise it!) But should AI be used as part of the job hunting process? This was the question we posed to our connections last week, and the results were very mixed… 🤔   31% of people believe that AI tools should be integrated into the process as a way to help applicants save time. There are so many tools out there that are designed with this purpose in mind, helping to find the right jobs and to speed up the creation of a cover letter or CV specific to the job. Speeding up the process means that people can apply to more jobs, or purely just have more time for other parts of their day.   45% believe that we should avoid using AI when applying for jobs, arguing that writing CVs and cover letters by yourself makes the applications more personal and higher quality. AI is currently no match for human effort when it comes to writing, especially as everyone has their own writing style that comes across. If you're the right person for the job, your personal writing style and answers to any questions in an application should show that.   Finally, there are also 24% of people that believe using AI in the application process can be useful depending on the situation. Everyone's reason for job hunting can be different, and there are some scenarios where AI can actually be extremely useful. But, it comes down to the person and the jobs they're applying for.   Are you currently on the hunt for a new job? Check out vacancies we're hiring for below 👇 https://lnkd.in/ggr9CsKw

AI is deeply integrated into most of our lives now, especially now at work. Barely a day goes by without AI helping out in some form in our roles. But how useful is AI when you are on the hunt for a new job?   It's no secret that job applications can sometimes be an annoyingly long and laborious process. You could say that job hunting itself is a full-time job with how long some can take. With this in mind, there's little wonder some job-seekers see AI tools as hugely helpful in reducing the time each application takes by just writing them for you. Struggling to answer a specific question in an application? ChatGPT can answer it for you in 10 seconds. Need help building your CV? There are specific AI tools that can do just that. AI tools can also be used to hone in the search for your perfect role by matching your skillset to job openings.   But just because it can, does it mean it should?   Now it's time to play devil's advocate. Using AI could be detrimental to the success of a job application. Let's say you use an AI writing tool to write a cover letter, giving it the prompt 'write me a cover letter for this company' and you submit without making any changes. Not only will this not sound like you, there's every chance that someone else has done the same thing. These 2 cover letters would be VERY similar, which would be an obvious sign that both candidates used AI in their cover letter, likely eliminating both candidates from the process.   AI can really go both ways when job hunting, so what do you think? Should we be encouraged to use AI throughout job applications, or should we go through the whole process ourselves?

Does electric vehicle talent in the UK lie outside of the industry?   It's no secret that electric vehicles (EVs) are a major priority within the automotive industry right now. Some of the big names at the forefront of this movement in the UK include Bentley, Vauxhall and Aston Martin. But would you be surprised if we told you that 84% of skilled EV automotive employees currently don't work for any of the big names within EVs?   Maybe not if you saw the image to go along with this post, but it's definitely a stat that catches your attention! This research comes from LinkedIn themselves and it was a study of around 38 key skills related to EVs, and where these skills are found within the UK labour market.   What does this mean for the EV talent market? Well the good news is that there are skilled people working in the UK that can help deliver on the ambitious goals set by both the companies themselves as well as the UK government. The trouble is they currently aren't finding or attracting these skilled workers to join them.   Part of this is because these companies are looking in the wrong places, placing far too much emphasis on previous experience in the automotive industry than a skills-based hiring technique. The other key issue is that the UK aren't the leading country for EV development, China and the US are currently much more attractive propositions for those looking to enter into the industry.   So, what needs to change? Realistically a mix of new hiring methods and a stronger employee-value proposition (EVP). EV manufacturers are currently too stubborn in their headhunting. Making the assumption that people need previous experience within the EV industry to succeed in the role, which is not the case. Also, improving the benefits for employees could be key in attracting top EV talent to the UK & stopping them going to the US or China.
