We were delighted to hold this webinar for our members with the Food Authenticity Network and Food Forensics Ltd, which generated a great discussion in the Q&A on SIRA testing. Members will soon be able to access a link to the recording via the members area of the website.
It was my pleasure to chair the inaugural fiin (Food Industry Intelligence Network) - Food Authenticity Network (FAN) webinar on Stable Isotope Ratio Analysis (#SIRA) last week with a presentation from Alison Johnson of Food Forensics Ltd, a Food Authenticity Centre of Expertise (https://lnkd.in/e8wNcmTw), which was followed by a Q&A panel discussion for which Alison was joined by fiin’s Paul Dobson and FAN Secretary John Points. Over 80 fiin members joined the webinar and posed searching questions to the panel. For any fiin members who couldn’t join the webinar, a link to the recording and Q&A answers will soon be uploaded to the members area of the fiin website. My thanks to Merry Rivas Gonzalez and Sophie Lawrence for planning and organising the webinar 🙏 👏 . UK National Measurement Laboratory (NML) at LGC

🔍 𝗳𝗶𝗶𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 The Food Standards Agency’s National Food Crime Unit (NFCU) and Food Standards Scotland's Scottish Food Crime and Incidents Unit (SFCIU) have released their Food Crime Strategic Assessment 2024, highlighting the evolving risks in the UK food supply chain. While the report confirms that most food remains safe and authentic, it serves as a reminder of the need for vigilance, as recent disruptions have opened up new avenues for food crime. The assessment draws on a wide range of sources, including industry intelligence and sampling, identifying key risks and sharing best practices to strengthen our collective response. It highlights the importance of collaboration between regulators, industry, and stakeholders to protect the integrity of our food system. 👉 Find out more here: https://lnkd.in/eVu-_BnU

Using our members’ expertise and our links throughout the food sector, fiin are working to support industry’s food authenticity testing strategies, by sharing member insights and best practice on the selection of appropriate test methods and the interpretation of results. Analytical testing is an integral component of a robust supply chain assurance programme and a valuable resource to support wider control measures such as rigorous supplier verification and audits, mass balance checks and effective whistleblowing procedures. In our recent Herbs and Spices webinar, fiin member McCormick & Company discussed their unique analytical testing programme and the challenges and considerations when commissioning authenticity testing. With herbs and spices originating from a wide range of species and plant parts, with complex manufacturing processes between the grower and consumer, effective testing presents its challenges. As well as providing an overview of their Analytical Approach, which includes target organic genetic analysis, molecular spectroscopy and chromatography, McCormick also review the pros and cons of Next Generation Sequencing – a breakthrough confirmatory tool for positive results. Our live online webinars are free to all fiin members, and the recording is accessible via the website – just log in to the members' areas. Resources are also available from the Food Authenticity Network. www.fiin.co.uk
