A Community Interest Company championing local Scottish food producers from our store in Buchanan Galleries, Glasgow.

About us

Foodies at SDX is a well-tested retail model that subverts normal market practice which pile pressure, reduce margins and prohibit small food producers. Now in the heart of Glasgow, you can buy freshly sourced Scottish products at a price you can afford, and which rewards small producers directly. They pay a nominal rent to us and in return they get our guidance, our marketing, our retail sales expertise and a high-visibility city centre presence. Every penny you spend in store goes directly to producers. We have done it in the arts with three city centre shops across Edinburgh and Glasgow – now turning over annually £3.5million. Too often food is a prisoner of the market economy in freshness, quality and price. At Foodies by SDX we have created a model that gives consumers great products and rewards small producers. Pop in and try our delicious products - from jams, chutneys, chocolate and honey, to charcuterie, chilli sauces and clootie dumplings.

Healthy crisps?   Yes, it’s true and we have them in stock.   Here is another food innovation available in our Buchanan Galleries shop that is capturing the imagination and taste buds of our customers.   Take a vegetable full of nutrients and make crisps from it. Now you have something that gives the same sensation as normal crisps, but is healthy, flavoursome, gluten and dairy free. Broccoli crisps are another brilliant product from Growers Garden. Gowers Garden started as a collective of 16 farming families who have been growing vegetables for over four generations in the east of Scotland, but now include growers from Perthshire and the Borders too. What they share is a passionate commitment to farm sustainably and responsibly. The creation of our fresh broccoli crisps is another of their genius products – come along a join the legions of converts. #scottishfoodanddrink #sustainablefarming #healthyalternatives #scottishsnacks #socialenterprise #communityinterestcompany #retailrevolution #smallfoodproducers

From the clear, crystal waters around the Isle of Mull to Foodies by SDX - A truly special treat. With seaweed hand harvested from the 300 miles coastline around the Isle of Mull (it grows here in abundance) comes an ultra-nutritious variety of chutney that is wowing Foodies customers. Our customers talk of the chutney’s extraordinary adaptability - from an alternative to a tomato base on a pizza to a marinade for fish or meat. Then of course there are the more familiar uses of chutney, with cheese and biscuits. Imagine those beautiful clear waters around the #IsleofMull. This is where the seaweed variety ‘Kelp’ grows. Also know as ‘Tangle Kelp  it is carefully handpicked to ensure that it regrows and plays its vital role in sustaining the many sea creatures around the shallow waters. The chutneys are first and foremost delicious. But this species also has the highest nutritional content of all living species and are way ahead of any land-based plant in terms of nutritional content. Come and try it for yourself. This is a special product. Remember also that every penny you spend goes straight to the producer and into the Isle of Mull economy. #handpicked #seaweed #foodanddrink #cic #glasgowbusiness #healthyeating #nutrition #newretail #notforprofit

Spice up your festivities with Big Jim’s top-selling sensation. Big Jim, AKA Jamie Cleland, a practicing Anaesthetic practitioner turned Hot Sauce maestro, has transitioned from putting people to sleep to awakening their senses. In his spare hours, Jim retreats to his garage, passionately crafting hot sauces that have become the talk of Buchanan Galleries. Big Jim's hot sauces are not just a condiment; they're an experience waiting to unfold on your taste buds. Inspired by the artisanal craft of #Tabasco , Jim took his quest for the perfect hot sauce to the southern states of the #USA, including the home of Tabasco; Louisiana. There, he absorbed the meticulous process required to create a truly exceptional hot sauce. But Big Jim didn't stop there – he added a uniquely Scottish twist to his creations. Using #Scottish whisky barrels to age the peppers, he's managed to infuse the spirit of Scotland into every drop. "The best #whisky in the world is made here in Scotland, so it was an obvious choice, and it adds so much richness to the flavour," shared Jim. It all started when Jim moved to Scotland in 2020. A mental breakdown caused him to re-evaluate what’s truly important to him. With a fully supportive wife, he started on his new venture. Now he divides his time between a part-time career in Surgical Anaesthetics at a major Scottish cancer centre and the production of the most exciting hot sauce combinations. Take Irn Bru and Whisky, Habanero Honey Mustard or Barrel-Aged Bonnets. This #Christmas, give your taste buds a gift they won't forget. Big Jim's hot sauces are not just condiments; they're an adventure in every drop. Head to Foodies at Buchanan Galleries and spice up your holiday season with the uniquely crafted, Scottish-inspired hot sauces from Big Jim. It's time to savour the warmth and richness of the season in every bite! #foodanddrink #retailexperience #localfood #notforprofits #buchanangalleries #artisanmade #chilli #newbusinessideas

The taste sensation that started with a call from Scottish Ballet Already a baker of renown Kirsteen received a call from #ScottishBallet. ‘Can you cater for our Ballet Café event. (This was to accompany their production of Matthew Bourne’s ‘Highland Fling’.) "They wanted a Scottish theme and asked if I could make a Clootie Dumpling. In truth I hadn’t."   "I said ‘YES" For Kirsteen, there was only one port of call.  The recipes passed on to her by her Granny Beaton.  I knew I had her Clootie Dumpling recipe somewhere and so it proved. This is not just a standard recipe. It is packed with tips and details – tried and tested over years. The Clootie Dumpling proved an immediate taste sensation. Stories of praise have since arrived from all over the World from people who were fortunate enough to get their hands on one. The recipe is now under lock and key. Now Granny Beaton’s Clootie Dumplings are shifting from our shelves at a rate of knots. They are a must have and perfect for the festive season. Get along to Foodies and make sure you don’t miss out. For those who don't know. The name Clootie Dumpling comes from the floured cloot(cloth) the pudding is boiled in. While the ingredients of a Clootie Dumpling vary, it must always be wrapped in a cloth. Think grated apple, orange zest, oatmeal, breadcrumbs, ginger, milk, eggs, butter, sherry, whisky and much more. Now you know, what’s stopping you? #scotlandisnow #foodanddrink #scottishfood #glasgowshopping #newretailmodel #buchanangalleries #foodiesbySDX #christmasgiftideas
