Six hundred years ago, the first library at Guildhall was founded by money bequeathed by a former Lord Mayor of the City of London, who gained a reputation as an astute medieval merchant, politician, and philanthropist. The vexed question of whether or not Richard Whittington was also a cat owner will be addressed in an exhibition, ‘Whittington: The Man, The Myth and The Cat’, which opens at the City of London Corporation’s Guildhall Library on 7 October. The free exhibition will use chapbooks (i.e. small printed booklets used for street literature in early modern Europe), children’s books, and works relating to pantomimes (… and cats), most of which were donated to the library by prolific book collector, Ellery Yale Wood, in 2016. Taking a detailed look at Richard Whittington’s life and the legends that have grown up around him, ‘Whittington: The Man, The Myth and The Cat’ will investigate the true story behind the rags-to-riches tale of a penniless orphan who transformed not just himself, but also the City of London. #DestinationCity

🚨 CALLING NOTICE 🚨 Fuellers' Installation Dinner at Mercers' Hall Installation Dinner on Thursday, 31st October 2024, where we will celebrate the installation of Elena Oderstone as our new Master. 🌟 Our Principal Guest: The Rt Revd and Rt Hon Dame Sarah Mullally DBE, the 133rd Bishop of London and the first woman to hold this historic office, will deliver a keynote speech on 'Sustainability: The importance of connectivity and relationships in building a sustainable future.' With an extraordinary career spanning nursing and ministry, Bishop Sarah will share her unique insights from her time as Chief Nursing Officer for England and her work in both healthcare and the church. We are honored to welcome such a distinguished guest! 🌟 Also speaking will be Alderman Alastair King DL, our incoming Lord Mayor of London, outlining his exciting vision for his upcoming mayoralty, accompanied by his wife, Florence, the future Lady Mayoress. THE MASTER'S RIDGEWAY WALKS July - September 2024 WALKS 1-6 In aid of the Fuellers Charitable Trust and JDRF the Fuellers' are excited to update you on the first six walks completed covering 37 miles of the stunning Ridgeway, taking in breathtaking views, historical landmarks, and even some interesting detours! Each walk has been a rewarding experience, exploring nature while supporting two important causes. Operated by FCC Environment, this cutting-edge facility reduces landfill usage and generates electricity through an innovative process. Water resilience is critical and one of the panels at our Annual Conference will tackle this topic. Led by Professor Carolyn Roberts a panel of experts will discuss the issue and the solutions. Carolyn is a #watermanagement specialist focussing on the human impact on the water cycle and environmental management. She is currently leading a major legal case against 6 English water companies for sewage spills. She has also often supported police investigations into murder victims in rivers.
