Our partnerships with growers focus on providing alternative cropping opportunities and digestate return for integration into existing arable rotations; helping to both reduce farm emissions and applications of fertiliser and plant protection products and to build soil organic carbon. Soils can hold significant quantities of carbon, both in the organic and inorganic horizons in the profile. Collectively these are known as the soil carbon sink, i.e., the capacity of carbon that the soil can trap and store. Understanding the amount of carbon being lost from soils and how this can be reversed can make a vital contribution to combating climate change. Organic carbon is largely lost from soils as CO2, one of the most significant greenhouse gases. Introducing crops grown for anaerobic digestion (AD) and applying the resulting digestate in combination with regenerative farming practices into arable production systems provides multiple opportunities to help build soil organic carbon. In addition to this, building soil organic carbon can help improve soil structure, reduce erosion of the topsoil and increases soil’s ability to hold water and nutrients. Established in 2010, Future Biogas are a highly experienced developer and operator of AD plants across the U.K.
About us
Established in 2010, Future Biogas is at the forefront of the anaerobic digestion industry. We are a highly experienced developer and operator of AD plants across the UK, and able to provide full service capabilities of development, construction, operations, ongoing compliance and asset management, both to our own projects and to those of third parties. We operate plants for JLEN, Aviva, Bio Capital, and Aberdeen City Council. Our plants convert a wide range of feedstocks into clean, renewable energy, through a process of anaerobic digestion which produces biogas. Biogas can either be used to generate green electricity, or upgraded into biomethane and injected in to the UK’s national gas network.

Living Wage Week is here for 2024 and Future Biogas is proud to be an accredited Living Wage Employer. We're standing with the thousands of employers across the UK who are committed to going a step beyond and paying employees a real living wage. As costs continue to soar, 12.9% of UK employees are still paid below what is considered the real living wage. Learn more about #LivingWageWeek here: https://lnkd.in/dV9bc9k

The clocks have gone back! ✨ This is Grange Farm by “night” (just after 5pm GMT)…ticking away as it is usually does…providing baseload low carbon energy to the national network in the form of biomethane. Future site tours over the winter will have to be earlier in the day, perhaps to coincide nicely with a spot of lunch. Interested? Be in touch. Future Biogas are delivering farm, food, and fuel decarbonisation through #projectcarbonharvest

Our friends at the The Country Trust are running an auction for some incredible experiences. The money raised will be used by the organisation to enable more children to experience and connect with and learn about the food, farming and countryside that sustains us.
🚨The Country Trust Charity Auction is LIVE! Over 100 truly remarkable lots are up for grabs, such as once-in-a-lifetime sports experiences with the #EnglandFootballTeam, a private tour of Highclere Castle Estate (#DowntonAbbey), exclusive getaways, and more. 🌱Every bid supports our mission to connect children from areas of high social and economic disadvantage with the land that sustains us all. 👉 https://lnkd.in/emPfinKW #CountryTrustAuction #CharityAuction #SupportCharities #OnceInALifetime #SportsExperiences #ExclusiveGetaways #BidForGood #MakeADifference #ChangeLives

The Future Biogas biology team play a crucial role in monitoring and maximising our biogas yields and the efficiency of the AD process. They train all new members of staff at our sites, providing recommendations for the KPIs that will monitor plant stability and optimisation, as well as sampling frequency and methodology. The team will also dictate the standard operating procedures for sampling and in situ analyses, to find early indicators of digester instability. For in-depth monitoring, samples are routinely sent to the central laboratory for complete analysis. Each month, every site receives tailored advice from the biology team, based on the interpretation of laboratory results combined with operational data, including adjustments to feeding, optimising operating conditions and the supply of additives such as our in-house developed nutrients. Across all of the sites that Future Biogas owns or operates we run local community funding schemes. Running on an annual application basis for the lifetime of our plants, these schemes exist to provide funding to support local not-for-profit initiatives. A recent example of a successful applicant close to Egmere Energy in Norfolk was a contribution to solar panels being installed at the Wells next the sea Men's Shed. Part of the UK Men's Sheds Association, these sites encourage people to come together to make, repair and repurpose by supporting projects in their local communities. It is believed over 1.2 million older men in the UK are facing the very serious issue of social isolation, with over 700,000 of them experiencing deep loneliness. These sites aim to improve wellbeing, reduce loneliness and combat social isolation. Now benefitting from a source of renewable electricity, the site in Wells next the sea has built up a collection of power tools that can be charged on-site. Insightful few days in Brussels for European Biomethane Week, discussing everything biomethane, catching up with old and new colleagues! Kicked off by delivering the Finance Masterclass in the European Biogas Association's newly launched European Renewable Gas Training Centre and Masterclass program alongside my fellow speakers, Thierry Arnaud and Manuel Maciejczyk. Sharing knowledge in this way can only help the industry grow. Great work from the European Biogas Association, Harmen Dekker, Ciska Molthof, Natalia Walczak. Some really interesting and thought provoking talks on the first day of the #EBAConference, with the stand out for me being Francesca Magnolo's talk on "Challenging dominant assumptions on scaling-up biomethane from manure", which is something the whole industry should be thinking about! It also provided a great opportunity to talk about Project Carbon Harvest. Future Biogas' pioneering project to deliver unsubsidised green gas and biogenic CO2 to corporate customers. It's a game-changer, decarbonising farming and corporates while supporting food production and building soil carbon. Reach out for more details! 🧑🌾🚜🌱 Finished off with a run past the EC HQ building and REPowerEU sign to put it all in perspective! 🏃♂️ #EUBW2024 #biogas #biomethane #unsubsidisedbiomethane #biogenicCO2 #projectcarbonharvest

How much difference does a decade make? For renewables, it has been game changing. 10 years ago, electricity from renewables such as wind and solar wasn’t as competitive as fossil fuels. “Now they can be equally as competitive, if not more so.” The diversification of the UK’s electricity system has also led to more locally embedded generation that is less commoditised, offering higher potential returns for investors. Tim Short, Infrastructure Partner at 3i Group plc, tells Raconteur | B Corp™ how the evolving energy landscape is shaping investment opportunities. Read more in the article below.

It’s not everyday you get to stand inside, outside and on top of an #anaerobicdigestion plant! Had a great day taking the #team to the UK’s first #unsubsidised #biomethane plant, currently under construction. This is the first of Future Biogas’ new generation of AD plants: 🌱 Producing green gas 🌱 Decarbonising industry & farming 🌱 Supporting British farmers in the agricultural transition We finished the afternoon watching the brilliant Six Inches of Soil, reminding us all of the crucial importance of #soils, and our responsibility as #custodians of the land to rebuild and regenerate them 🌱🌍 Huge thanks to the site team who showed us round 🙌🏻
