🦴 AI to help doctors detect broken bones on X-rays! The impact AI can have in healthcare is huge. After plenty of talk about job-stealing robots, recent advancements are seeing AI get back into the good books with it already being used to help detect the earliest signs of breast cancer on scans. In busy emergency departments, missed broken bones are the most common diagnostic error. 3-10% of cases are being missed and experts are in high demand but restrained by a crippling workload - this is a game changer. While AI will not be working alone (images will still also be reviewed by a healthcare professional) Mark Chapman, director of health technology at NICE says this will make life easier. “These AI technologies are safe to use and could spot fractures which humans might miss, given the pressure and demands these professional groups work under" And although the "true cost of implementing and using AI technologies for fracture detection is uncertain", the cost per scan sits at an estimated £1. We've watched AI grow into what it is today - so what's coming next?

💡 AI technology is revolutionizing stroke care at Royal Papworth Hospital! The hospital is now using the Brainomix e-Stroke system, an advanced AI platform designed to support clinicians by providing faster and more accurate interpretation of CT scans. This cutting-edge tool plays a crucial role in the decision-making process, helping healthcare professionals determine the best treatment path for stroke patients, often when time is of the essence. Consultant radiologist Dr. Bobby Agrawal said: "The AI system delivers real-time insights that allow us to make critical decisions more quickly, ensuring patients receive life-saving care with precision and speed." By harnessing the power of AI, the hospital is improving patient outcomes and driving forward the future of stroke care. The system has the potential to significantly reduce delays, enhance treatment planning, and provide clinicians with detailed information that might not be immediately visible in traditional imaging. This innovation is a prime example of how AI is being integrated into everyday healthcare, transforming care delivery and reinforcing the NHS's commitment to utilizing technology for better patient outcomes. 🚀 Exciting new technology trials are underway at Nottingham's City Hospital, paving the way for a state-of-the-art £105m National Rehabilitation Centre (NRC), set to open in 2025. The cutting-edge trials include equipment tracking, AI-powered CCTV, and voice-activated environmental controls. These innovations aim to enhance the rehabilitation experience for both patients and staff, improving efficiency and patient independence. Lisa Yates, Digital Strategy Lead at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, highlights the importance of trialling these technologies in real-life environments: "Until the technology has been implemented in a real, live, patient environment, we don’t fully know how they are going to work, and we need that feedback from patients and staff." From tracking equipment location via an app to voice-activated controls that allow patients to open blinds or adjust lighting, this tech promises to transform rehabilitation care. The NRC, being built in Nottinghamshire, will feature 70 beds and provide vital services for those recovering from serious injury and illness. It’s incredible to see the NHS pushing forward with digital innovations that could reshape patient care for the better. 🙌 #NHSInnovation #DigitalTransformation #HealthcareTechnology
