Every year, this day is marked to raise awareness, promote inclusion and celebrate the unique contributions of people with Down syndrome. I’m incredibly proud of my daughter Victoria, who is now 33. She overcame a major heart defect early in life, lives independently with some support and leads a full, happy and meaningful life. Her resilience and positivity continue to inspire me every day. Jeff brings nearly 30 years of experience delivering major infrastructure projects across road, rail, water, demolition and pipeline sectors. A Chartered Engineer for almost two decades, he is also a Fellow of both Engineers Ireland and the Institution of Civil Engineers here in the UK. His impressive background includes service as an Engineer Officer in the military, further enhancing his leadership and technical expertise. Most recently, Jeff led the temporary works department for the principal contractor on HS2 (Skanska/Costain/Strabag JV), playing a key role over the past seven years. Jeff joins Galldris at an exciting time, as our work bank continues to grow significantly. His leadership will be instrumental in driving our engineering function forward as we expand and take on major projects such as HS2 and Sizewell C. The event brought together employers and key stakeholders to explore how we can better support care leavers in securing employment. After an insightful introduction from Yvonne Mason, the High Sheriff of Suffolk, we heard from Chris Wright of The Family Business an innovative employment model from Suffolk County Council aimed at empowering care leavers and guiding them on their path to success. As proud signatories of the Care Leavers Covenant, we are committed to interviewing all care leavers who have a proven interest in construction and are actively seeking opportunities in the industry. David Wake, who represented us at the event, commented: "The potential partnership with Suffolk County Council to support care leavers will strengthen our recruitment process and open the door to an untapped pool of talent for our apprenticeship opportunities, particularly on our Sizewell projects."
