The Galloways grounds are usually impeccably kept. Sending a big thank you to everyone at The Lancaster Priory who have raised £290.00 for Galloways by holding a coffee morning to support us recently. Michelle Hawley attended their harvest supper yesterday evening and held an awareness discussion to provide understanding of various sight loss conditions, as well as giving people the opportunity to perform small tasks blindfolded to experience first hand what life with a visual impairment could be like. It was great to have so many willing volunteers giving the activities a go! Thank you for hosting us, and we loved attending your function! Galloways was pleased to be part of an engagement and collaboration event for St. Paul’s Eye Unit at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust for improving accessibility at the Unit and the hospital as a whole. Along with other collaborators from Bradbury Fields and Merseyside Sight Loss Council, we teamed with staff and volunteers in the hospital and had the chance to walk around the clinic, the emergency unit, and the low vision clinic. Our own Jenny White posed as a patient with a guide dog (her lovely assistant Collis, pictured below!). She sat in the waiting area, waited to be called, and then followed a nurse to the assessment room. Another participant did the same from the perspective of a cane user, and the pair offered feedback on accessibility to help improve the care patients receive when attending the hospital sites. Yet another great collaboration to help improve services across the NHS in the area for people living with sight loss! What an honour to be involved with Active Lancashire!

An absolute honour to welcome Prof. Paulo Eduardo Stanga of The Retina Clinic London - Bespoke Eye Care & Clinical Trials Centre to Galloways HQ this afternoon. Prof. Stanga is a Medical and Surgical Retina Specialist with over 30 years experience of ophthalmology and has created a real buzz of excitement in everyone attending the talk this afternoon. If you haven’t been able to attend to hear him live, please look out over the coming days on our social media channels and website for the video of his discussion from today. A huge thank you also to Sebastian Eduardo Francis Stanga for making the long journey and supporting the talk, and to Helen of Longton Womens Institute for arranging this once in a lifetime time opportunity for us to host the Professor! Wet, windy but absolutely wonderful! Our first ever Golf Day has been in action today at the prestige Shaw Hill Golf & Spa Hotel with a number of corporate teams taking part in the action all to raise money and awareness for blind and partially sighted people across the region. Just a few of the highlights have been captured in the video with many more yet to be shared, but a huge thank you must go out to every single participant and supporter of the day….thank you for withstanding the torrential rain and being such fantastic supporters, this day wouldn’t have been so much of a success without you all. Soon afternoon tea will be served and then into the evening’s auction and raffles…and a few drinks to warm those frigid toes! Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust have launched Patient Communication Boxes, designed to support staff in communicating with patients who have diverse needs, including sensory and cognitive impairments. With input from patients, organisations like Galloways and a range of healthcare professionals, these boxes are packed with resources and guidance to enhance patient care delivery. Available across wards, emergency departments, and outpatient areas at hospitals including Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospital NHS Trust, Aintree University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, and the Liverpool University Dental Hospital, these boxes fill crucial support gaps and improve the overall patient experience and we were delighted to have had input into them!
