PETROCHINA SIGNS PSC’s FOR SHALLOW OFFSHORE BLOCKS 14 AND 15. Staatsolie has signed two PSC’s with PETROCHINA Investment Suriname B.V. to carry out E&P activities in offshore Blocks 14 and 15 in the Shallow Offshore 2 Acreage (SHO2) of Suriname. The blocks are in water depths of up to 150 meters and are located east of Block 52, where PETRONAS has made several consecutive discoveries. The Signing Ceremony took place on September 13, 2024. PETROCHINA Investment Suriname B.V. is a Dutch subsidiary of PetroChina Company Limited, which is part of the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) Group. The company is one of the major O&G producers and distributors in China -as well as a significant player in the global O&G industry- and has listings at the Shanghai Stock Exchange and the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. The SHO2 Bid Round was launched last year November and was open for bids until May 31, 2024. At the time of the closing of the Bid Round, Staatsolie announced that several bids were received, but did not disclose further details about the number of bidders. With PETROCHINA entering the Suriname O&G playing field as a relatively new player, expectations are high that this will further boost activities in the SHO2 Acreage. The acreage offered for licensing in the SHO 2 Bid Round reportedly includes over 90 known prospects and leads, of which 30 are expected to hold between one million and seven million barrels of oil and are promising potential bidders an estimated combined STOIIP of over 98 billion barrels of oil.
