At #ghd, we are committed to creating a better future and for a second year running, we’re delighted to be supporting our global volunteering programme, good care day. 🤍 Over the past 2 weeks, the ghd South Africa team hosted 4 events across different regions in South Africa.   🌱 The team in Johannesburg returned to Door of Hope Children's Mission. The team helped to restore the lawn to create a mindful space for the children and the carers to spend some well-deserved time outside. The team did an absolutely phenomenal job!   🫶 The team in Cape Town spent time with the elderly at Kensington Home for the Aged. Our team hosted a tea party and bingo, whilst also spending parts of their day assisting the nursing team with their duties and visiting with the patients in frail care. The photos don’t do the joy experienced on the day any justice!   🐶 In Durban, it was a day spent with the pups at Paw Prints Rescue & Rehoming – Dog and Puppy adoption centre. Many of the puppies are rescued from awful environments or abandoned. Our team spent the day helping to bath and care for the time dogs and puppies, this helped to free up the staff who were having to attend emergency cases.   🌊 We have one team member based in Eastern Cape and for her good care day, she took to Hobie beach for a clean-up, focusing on our ESI commitment along with the help of some of our ghd salon stylists. “Being able to host events across South Africa and participate in good care day that have an impact not only on the environment but also our communities, from toddlers to the elderly and animal well-welfare has been an incredibly rewarding experience for our team. At #ghd, we are committed to creating a better future and for a second year running, we’re delighted to be supporting our global volunteering programme, good care day. 🤍 Last week, our ghd ANZ team we hosted five volunteer days supporting foundations for National Parks and Wildlife, RSPCA, Ronald McDonald House Charities, and Foodbank. The first team in New Zealand team kicked off their good care day by doing maintenance work at Ronald McDonald House in Auckland before our Australian team got busy helping park rangers with conservation efforts in a Brisbane national park, cooking and distributing meals for sick families at Ronald McDonald House, cleaning kennels and supporting the animals at RSPCA shelters in Brisbane and Sydney, and our Perth team (just three team members!) made 600kg of food for 216 meal packs for families in need through Foodbank. A truly rewarding week of giving back! All teams were thoroughly involved throughout the volunteer days and our ghd ANZ good care day organisers have been receiving some great feedback from the team. At #ghd, we are committed to creating a better future and for a second year running, we’re delighted to be supporting our global volunteering programme, good care day. 🤍 In France, the ghd team have spent their good care day's supporting two deserving environmental charities: One group supported Randossage, a charity committed to collecting waste & giving them an artistic second life. Braving cold weather, the team got together to clean a district of Lyon. In one day, the 18 ghd team members collected around 90kg of waste! The team were extremely proud to have been able to make such an incredible contribution to not only cleaning the city, but also to raising awareness of the charity among local people they were able to meet during the day. The second group spent their good care day supporting Forts pour demain, a charity who are committed to biodiversity, environmental protection, sustainable agriculture, and working to combat global warming. The team assisted with gardening: seed planting, weeding, soil protection and general maintenance. At ghd, we have an incredible team of engineers that work at our Research and Development labs in Cambridge, developing the products to give you a good hair day, everyday. 🌍⚙️ This year we want to highlight the work of our engineering team and the important role they play in innovation and development at ghd. Earlier this week, we spoke with one of our inspiring senior female engineers, Georgina Moore, about her current role and her thoughts on this year's World Engineering Day theme, "Shaping a Sustainable Future Through Engineering". - Tell us a bit about your role at ghd… I'm a Senior Innovation Engineer in the Science and Innovation Team. One of my main roles is leading the Style Perfection Pillar, which involves researching, exploring and creating new technology, interfacing and supporting our IP council, running projects at the front end of the research and development process. - If you could give one piece of advice to aspiring engineers, what would it be... Be honest with yourself and everyone around you about what you can do and have done. People are generally happy to help you learn or work out how to do something if you ask, but if you say you can do it, they will leave you to succeed or fail on your own, so take responsibility for your actions. Engineering is a team sport. - This year’s theme for World Engineering Day is ‘Shaping a Sustainable Future Through Engineering'... How does this relate to your role at ghd?  Shaping a sustainable future through engineering is incredibly relevant to what we are doing in R&D and in ghd as a wider company. We have environmental and social impact initiatives focused on People, Planet and Product, challenging us all to reduce our carbon footprint, developing energy efficient products such as the Duet Style which uses about 45% less energy consumption than a standard hair dryer, our annual pink campaign, which raises awareness and donates to breast cancer charities and giving back to our local communities with ghd’s Good Care Day initiative throughout February. At #ghd, we are committed to creating a better future and for a second year running, we’re delighted to be supporting our global volunteering programme, good care day. 🤍 In London, our ghd Global and UKI teams have been busy supporting two London based charities, Ace of Clubs and Olive Branch Aid. Ace of Clubs: Based in South London, Ace of Clubs is a day centre for the homeless and vulnerable. Visitors are able to access a free hot meal, clothing, a laundry service, showers, healthcare and access to computers. The ghd teams who volunteered helped prepped the meals, served the food, cleaned up & talked with the guests attending the lunch services - One team's lunch service had a total of 192 guests attend! All the ghd volunteers enjoyed helping to provide a much needed smile and chat to those who need it. Olive Branch Aid: Another South London-based charity run by volunteers who work together to source, store, pack and deliver food products, daily essentials, toiletries and cleaning products for those who need them, often in emergency situations. Our ghd employees supported by cleaning the food bank and community centre, sorting through donation boxes, cleaning graffiti off walls and shutters, packing food parcels and used their creative minds to support workshop ideas for children - this included creating two fantastic videos to help support the charities social media channels! At #ghd, we are committed to creating a better future and for a second year running, we’re delighted to be supporting our global volunteering programme, good care day. 🤍 During the traditional Chinese Lantern Festival, our ghd China team joined a heart warming event at a local senior nursing home to bring joy and companionship to elderly residents. The team helped to make Lantern Festival dumplings (Tangyuan), provided haircuts and together decorated the premises with lanterns, couplets, and festive ornaments. 🏮 The event resonated deeply with both our ghd volunteers and the seniors present. Many shared touching reflections, reminisced about childhoods and late family members. The overwhelming enthusiasm confirmed the value of such initiatives. We are so proud to share that our ghd team in China have made a commitment to collaborating with the nursing home on a regular basis, aiming to improve community impact and will look to expand the program to involve families and business partners moving forward.
