5 years ago, Girls in Marketing was just an idea in Olivia’s brain. Olivia had always been interested in human behaviour and even studied psychology at University, where she found her love for marketing and SEO. The psychology student-to-marketer pipeline is real 🤣 Once she graduated from University, Olivia decided to find a job in SEO but struggled to truly find her tribe within the marketing industry. That’s where the idea of Girls in Marketing developed. Since then, we have developed into a community of 450,000+ marketers whilst helping thousands of marketers through our training opportunities. We have tons of ways that you can get involved, depending on the stage of your career: 💻 The Girls in Marketing Membership 🤝 Brand Sponsorships and Partnerships 👥 Team Training Opportunities 🎙 The Girls in Marketing Podcast When founding Girls in Marketing, Olivia always knew it was important to her to continue to provide accessible resources for all marketers. Our community is always at the heart of everything we do. Now, that’s enough about us. Introduce yourself in the comments, we want to know more about YOU 🙋♀️

So many Dicks… So few of everyone else 🤷♀️ We love this campaign by beauty brand E.L.F, highlighting the fact that there are more men named Dick (Richard, Rich, and Rick) on corporate boards in the US than entire groups of underrepresented people 🤯 According to their campaign, on corporate boards of directors in the US: 👉 There are 2x more men named Dick than Hispanic women 👉 Black women and Asian women barely outnumber men named Dick 👉 There are 19x more men named Dick than women of Middle Eastern descent 👉 There are only 3 Native American women serving on these boards The campaign shares information about what a board of directors actually is, a diversity database and why it’s beneficial for everyone if boards of directors are more diverse. We love when campaigns for good make a statement and it’s undeniable that a campaign name like this is going to turn heads! Check out the So Many Dicks campaign here: https://lnkd.in/gfuV79cA

We recently shared a post about Guerrilla marketing and we love this new campaign by The Dad Shift! The campaign features fake babies in slings attached to statues of famous men across central London, calling on the government to improve the UK’s parental leave options. As part of the campaign, they also plan to deliver an open letter to the prime minister later this month, calling on him to take immediate action to improve paternity leave. This campaign takes inspiration from a similar campaign in 2023 by the charity, Pregnant Then Screwed, which involved strapping baby dolls to the statues on Crosby Beach. Their campaign also called for the government to increase paternity leave in the UK. These examples of OOH Guerrilla Marketing campaigns demonstrate the impact that they can have both in person and online, raising the profile of important issues. #ParentalLeave #GuerrillaMarketing

Marketing generalist vs marketing specialist: which is best? 🤔 ✅ Benefits of being a generalist marketer: 👉 Gain experience and knowledge in a wide range of marketing disciplines 👉 Understand which areas of marketing you enjoy most and make an informed decision about whether you may like to specialise in future 👉 Pursue roles in marketing strategy and work across lots of different marketing teams, bringing them together to create great campaigns 👉 Progress in your career by taking on responsibility for strategy, growth and managing teams ✅ Benefits of being a specialist marketer: 👉 Develop a deep knowledge in one (or a few) area/s of marketing 👉 Become a go-to person in your area because of your deep subject knowledge  👉 Build a clear career path in your niche 👉 (Potentially) progress to senior positions without managing a team There are lots of other benefits to each type of marketing career and it’s so important to remember that what works for one person, may not be the right choice for you! Whether you prefer to work across many areas of marketing or specialise in one, as long as you do it with purpose, you’ll find what you love! We’d love to hear your thoughts on this! 👇 #MarketingCareers

Let’s talk Guerrilla Marketing Campaigns 💡 There are plenty of recent guerrilla marketing campaigns we see on social media and there are also lots of AI generated OOH campaigns that go viral, without any actual IRL installation at all. Guerrilla marketing isn’t a new marketing tactic, in fact, it’s been around for a very long time. Example: Big Spills by Bounty 🧻 In 2009 Bounty launched two outdoor campaigns in New York and Los Angeles to demonstrate the superior absorbency of Bounty paper towels. They created two giant spills right in the middle of busy commuter areas of the cities. In Los Angeles, shoppers stumbled across a giant ice lolly melting in the Third Street Promenade 🍦 On 7th Avenue in New York, busy commuters were greeted by a giant coffee cup knocked over and spilling onto the pavement, complete with steam and the smell of freshly brewed coffee ☕️ Both spills were accompanied by outdoor ads with the message: ”Bounty – Makes small work of BIG spills”. 🤔 So, what are the benefits of Guerrilla Marketing? 👉 Although Bounty are a bigger brand, guerrilla marketing campaigns are accessible for smaller businesses or startups with limited budgets as the tactics can be fairly low cost.  👉 The campaigns are designed to create impact and be memorable which helps create a buzz.  👉 They often generate earned media. Once the guerrilla campaign is in-situ, people will often share photos and videos of it on social media, adding to its reach and impact. 👉 Guerrilla marketing campaigns are an example of a traditional marketing technique that allow for creativity and can help you to reach specific audiences, meaning you can choose time and location to get your campaign in front of the right people at the right time. Let us know your thoughts on Guerrilla Marketing in the comments! 👇
